Chris Waters throws a shutout
I said after his major league debut that Chris Waters would probably never pitch another game so good. He was doing a great job proving me right until tonight, when he threw a four-hit shutout of the Blue Jays.
It was the first (and likely only) complete game shutout for an O's pitcher in 2008.
Now he's talking and I can barely understand a word he's saying. He's sort of Boomhauer-ish.
Way to go, Chris.

To spread the article around on Yahoo! Buzz. I’m going to use it for pretty much anything but gamethreads.

Go, Good Chris!
Say, do split-personality pitchers take up an extra roster spot? ‘Cause if so, we’ve got a problem.

i dont think so
we would have lost an extra spot from cabrera for the last 20 years, oh wait what? it hasnt been 20 years, well it’s felt like it.
What up?

The Blue Jays can't hit
Color me unimpressed. Ok, so a little impressed.

And why can't they hit?

haha, this is funny
I thought you were asking an obnoxious question like “why can’t they hit?” when you were actually making a snarky Eckstein reference that I missed because I can be kinda dumb like that. So, cheers to you sir.
And here’s the response I typed up to the question without reading the answer. Cuz I typed it up and I don’t want to waste it. God I can be obtuse:

Well, I can tell you that they’re 20th in the majors in runs scored, and 11th of 14 in the AL. The teams below them in the AL are KC, Seattle, and Oakland, the three most pathetic offenses in the AL. And not too many runs (about 70) separate those four teams.
Now as to why they can’t hit, well, Lyle Overbay has the best OBP on the team with .368 with only middling power. Snider’s almost as good with great power and very few PAs.
They just don’t have that many good offensive players. Alex Rios and Vernon Wells, signed as good-hitting good-defense outfielders have had only middling-to-mediocre offensive stats. I can’t say much about their defense (though I suspect Toronto has a good team D, as they have good pitching).

A top-notch analysis
With insight like that, you could replace Buck Martinez.
Seriously, could you? His voice gives me hives.

yeah
Buck with Thorne isn’t great, but you’ll hear worse all over the place. Buck and Hunter together brings out the worst in both guys.

Chirs Waters now has two MLB days to remember-- which is two more than I expected, frankly. Way to go, Chris!
Meanwhile, the Sawx choked another one— to the dismay of, well, at least one guy. The rest of us have seen this coming and are pretty casual about it…though not as casual as the good citizens of St. Petersburg (the warm one), who didn’t even fill the place last night.
OK, it’s a crappy venue, and TB fans are no doubt still peeved about the events of March. But you’d still figure a lousy 36K could be scared up, esp. since there was a good contingent of Massholes present. Nope.
Ah well, maybe they’ll show tonight, as the light-punching Rays take on the Amazing Timmy Wake to put away yet another series from the punch-drunk Sawx, yawn.
Meanwhile, the Orioles’ relentless drive for 70 wins continues, with Big Mouth Bass taking the Hill. If another financial institution doesn’t go under today, I’ll prolly watch. If you hear something like “And giant retirement fund TIAA-CREF was reported to be nearing bankruptcy as the carnage on Wall St. continued…”— forget it, I’ll have one leg out the window.
Go O’s!

Certainly not dismayed
7 game lead in the wild card? What’s to complain about? Still waiting for this collapse…
