Gameday Thread: O's (63-74) @ Red Sox (80-57)
Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox

Rad Liz hasn't been so bad since being recalled. Not great, of course. He throws too many balls and can't get far enough in the game as a result. Hopefully the O's can get to Lester and we can try and beat this Red Sox team for once. It'd be nice to help out the Rays, White Sox, and Twins anyway (not that the White Sox and Twins have been doing much to help themselves).
Ah, the sweet smell of September baseball.
Go O's!

Update from Amber:
Guts will not be starting tomorrow. He’s taking 3 days off due to “dead arm.” Starter tomorrow TBD, will be someone from the bullpen.

the pitching has gone too hell.

more IP than he's had before

I'm surprised it took this long
Dude’s been carrying 20 or so guys on his back all season. Had to wear him down at some point.

Jim Jones
Everyone in baseball who’s ever heard of him has been thinking “starter” anyway, so why not in september when you’re out of options.
With JJ on the mound, we might even be able to take this series, which would be twice as sweet, since we handed it to tampa bay already.

That was a shockingly bad call
And it was against a team that seems to get all the calls.
If you can’t see the damn play, ask another umpire. You could probably tell he was safe from the top of the green monster.

I think replay should
be enabled for plays like that one, too. It doesn’t require an additional stoppage because after the guy is called safe/out what’ll they have to do… time him running to the dugout? That could’ve had a direct impact on the outcome of the game. I mean it’s a RUN, for crying out loud!!!

Seriously, why do I do this to myself?
Why do I ever think the Os will win a game against a contender in September? Every year, I do the same thing.
Masochism, I tell you. It’s masochism.
by Lothar on Sep 2, 2008 8:07 PM EDT 0 recs
I don't ask for much
It’s not like I’m expecting them to win a series or two games in a row.
All I want is one win against a contender when it counts. One lousy win.
But I fear they can’t win in this division with this pitching staff. Not when the games really matter.
Don’t know what the solution is. Just blowin’ off some steam.

OK, show of hands...
how many of us gave up on watching within the last two weeks? I know I have. It happens every late August-early September, and yet I get my yearly O’s depression every year, like I expected something different. I know, Einstein’s theory of insanity and all, but why does every year feel like it ends with a 4-32 slide. Why can’t we just be normal bad to end the year instead of eve of apocalypse bad every year?

It may just be me, but following the end of the season collapse is especially painful when all you have is gameday. If I had cable and lived near Baltimore, then I’d probably still watch, but it’s all I can do to pull up gameday after I get back and see the O’s are down 10-1.

I’ve lost a lot of interest, not because they’re losing, they were doing quite of bit that in the beginning of the season too, but because they’re getting blown out. If the games were close, the team could be watchable even if they lose. But now, I go into each game with very little hope that the O’s will win.

I still isten...
Ain’t nothing else can get me through a shift like the Birds do, at least so far.
But I’m looking foward to football. Because this Thursday, Sunday, AND Monday, I can turn off the Orioles, and put on the football. After that, I guess I got three weeks of listening to the O’s, with only Sunday as my saving grace…
I just tell myself that losing builds character, as all of the Boston fans were saying for years before 2004. You never hear ’em say that anymore. I mean I went to a Boston game a few weeks ago and they beat us like 7-3 or 7-4, and I just wish a Boston fan told me “losing builds character.”
