So...uhhhh...

…Simon’s pitching for us, right?

Glad I'm not the only one who had to ask...

Rhetorical Question

Which pitcher do you think will have the better outing?

by drj on Sep 23, 2008 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

Bass yesterday, Simon today. Who are these guys and why are they pitchiing for my team (another rhetorical question)?

Admiral Stockdale starts tomorrow...

Who am I? Why am I here?

If that went over your heads, well, that means I’m old, and go ask your parents.

No Huff Daddy, Dr. Jones or Markakis in the lineup. I guess the O’s like Salazar over Moore and Costanzo.

He has had a better season. And honestly probably stands as much chance as they do contributing to a major league team at this point.

not to mention...

moore has not really been healhy all year, so that’s at least ONE reason to like salazar over moore.

Disagree

Moore is only 24 and raked the minors for the last 3 years. This year was a setback, but he still has a solid chance to be a major leaguer.

by dkdc on Sep 23, 2008 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, Moore has a broken thumb

So he has zero chance of contributing “at this point”

He’s far more likely to have a real major league career than Salazar, IMO.

by dkdc on Sep 23, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

probably

But Moore’s not that exciting. He’s a C prospect.

tim dierkes at mlbtr has done a spreasheet about WARP and first round draft picks. interesting given the perceptions about tonight’s opponent and talk of tnaking it.

O's have a fair number of first round picks

Roberts
Jones
Markakis
Payton
Montanez
Olson
Guthrie

by dkdc on Sep 23, 2008 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the point was teams with first round picks actually contributing – enough to bump them up into the top via total WARP. That ain’t the O’s.

teams...

w/ their OWN first round picks directly or indirectly (via dudes acquired through trade of first round picks) contribut

the article is a bunch of crap

The rays are #4. Why is that not a significant contribution to be one of the top 4 in baseball? Also, the teams above them have made trades or are shelling out big bucks for some solid players well beyond their first few years in the league. That’s not the Rays MO. I’d say they’ve damn damn well with first round picks.

Sweet Zombie Jesus

Is this season over yet? I could attend for free every game from here on out. I can’t stand the idea of sitting in the stands for 3+ hours anymore. Seriously, what the hell is the matter with me? Has anyone else hit that breaking point?

I hit it in mid-August

I went on vacation to Disney and baseball-wise, never came back.

The only reason I’m paying any attention is because a buddy of mine is there for his first trip to Camden Yards. It’s kind of stupid for me to pay attention for that reason.

Hell, the O’s were shit in my eyes by May of last year. They made it to July this year. The may not make it out of the off season next year. Who know.

by drj on Sep 23, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Can I make a request?

If, by some chance, the O’s have the lead in the 7th or so (and with 2 on and 0 out right now, they may be adding to it), can SOMEONE in the Greater Baltimore area drive to the stadium and somehow temporarily incapacitate Jamie Walker so Trembley is not tempted to use him? Can you do a O’s fan a solid and make that happen?

It's 4-1 good guys

and you gotta know

every time the bullpen phone rings and it’s the dugout with news that Jamie should warm up because he’s coming in, he dies a little more inside. Can’t they just let the man finish his miserable season in peace?

So, just checked the box score...

Who the hell is Alfredo Simon? Where did we find someone capable of pitching into the seventh inning?

I ask you people you ONE DAMN FAVOR!

One! All I need is to make sure Jamie doesn’t come in. But noooooooooooo……..

We go from 5-1 to 5-4

I blame all you Baltimore area fans, personally. You could have put sugar in his gas tank, cut the power to his house so his alarm clock didn’t go off, reprogram his GPS so he got lost on the way to OPACY, but NO……..

You could drop Jamie Walker in the middle of the Blair Witch Project woods naked and he’ll find his way back to Camden Yards.

He's sort of like that rooster in the old cartoon....

y’know….the one that annoys the dog so much with his cockadoodledooing…..and the dog comes up with all sorts of inventive ways to get rid of him…but the rooster ALWAYS returns every morning.

Y’know what I’m talking about, right? Guys? Guys?

by Chanumas on Sep 23, 2008 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions

that was a great prediction

This is sooooo Orioles baseball in September. I told my buddy the O’s would put some meatball out there that immediately let’s the game get out of control.

We say this every year… Do these guys go home and feel even a tad of remorse for sucking so hard?

Sometimes this team just boggles my mind.

Not the least of which due to the fact that, after eleven years, I had no idea I had this much mind to boggle.

Let's see if Diamond Dave goes off tonight on the players

Really, he can kiss my ass if he does. He left Walker in the game to get blasted. He could have been yanked before he completely blew it when it is obvious he was worse than usual tonight. I don’t want to hear any more bullshit about respecting the game and pointing the finger at players. He has to look in the mirror on this one.

Don't forget Brian Burres

But only when he pitches at Yankee Stadium.

And Trembley just explained the Walker situation – they wanted Miller, but he felt something wrong in his side on his last pitch, so Walker got up quickly and came into the game
