Rays 5 and 7, Orioles 2 and 5: Get out, Jamie Walker
I introduce you to the left-handed Todd Williams. One cool season as a personal favorite of mine, then a disaster where he just won't go away or stop getting put into ballgames so he can lose them.

Poor Alfredo Simon went out and did all he could do, but then Walker farted it all away. Enough with Jamie. As Stacey said in the game thread, let him finish his miserable season in peace. Stop running him out there. It's insulting to the few people still paying attention.

Dave can't manage a BP worth a damn
The game could be tied with bases loaded and David Ortiz at the plate and Trembley would still bring in Walker.

It's amazing
How much ground we’ve made in just two days. I think on Monday we were tied with Atlanta for fifth overall? Anyways, now we are a good two and a half games in front of the Braves and just two back of the Buco’s for fourth. Sorry if this annoys you guys, but watching Tampa makes me envious beyond belief. Garza + Price + Shields + Kazmir with MORE guys coming up? How is that remotely fair… If you ask me, we’ve tried the FA method and it didn’t work, let’s do it through drafting/scouting.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
BUT...
They got Garza in trade. A genius trade for lame ass Delmon Young.

and Kazmir in trade of course

for VICTOR ZAMBRANO!
…and we’ve tried that, too.

Right
But they drafted Delmon Young #1 overall and dealt him for Garza AND Bartlett. I think both sides benefited from the trade, but the Rays now have a system that is so good that they may very well start dealing top prospects as so many are blocked. I should’ve added that we have to get good through drafting/international scouting/dealing almost everyone 29+. It’s amazing how much value we could get from trading just Bedard/Roberts/Huff/Tejada.

Whoa, there
Rays now have a system that is so good that they may very well start dealing top prospects as so many are blocked.
The Rays still have a very good system, but Longoria and Price were clearly the jewels. Once those two have graduated, it’s still probably a top 5 system, but it’s no longer an absolutely historic collection of talent.
It’s also a very pitching-heavy system. Aside from Brignac and maybe Jaso, there isn’t much hitting talent in the pipeline for the next couple of years.
and a number of the guys project as relievers
Which are useful. Both not historically great talents. The Rice guys fit this bill. Rice destroys arms. If I was a high school pitcher I would think long and hard about going to Rice (also its in Houston. ew).
Sorry, I should've inserted the word "pitching" before "prospects."
The Rays have enough pitchers that they can start dealing them for extra pieces without breaking a sweat. Although theoretically you cannot really ever “block” a pitcher, Tampa has a rotation that should be rock solid for years to come, not to mention that their bullpen is top three in the league too. Neither of those entities are going anywhere and Tampa could quite easily couple pitching prospects with AAAA players and get quality. Granted, I’m not sure if that organization would do something like that but if a gaping hole opens up on their team they have the resources. With Hellickson, Davis, McGee and (personal favorite)Talbot all coming up, some room is going to have to be made.
By the way, I wouldn’t exactly call the Rays organization thin in position prospects when they boast Brignac, T. Beckham and Jennings among others.

Yes, they do have tremendous pitching depth
Some of that starting pitching talent will be needed to patch holes in the bullpen, but they can afford trade for hitting talent with guys like Sonnanstine, Jackson, and Niemann without batting an eye.
Their hitting depth isn’t bad at all, but guys like Jennings and especially Beckham are several years away from the majors.
Fucking Walker
Fuck Jamie Walker. Fuck him in his stupid, left-handed ass. He’s fucking clown shoes. I’d like to punch him in his stupid, camo-wearing face. He’s an insult to redneckery. I hope someone car bombs his El Camino. Fuck him to death with the right arm of Chad Pennington.
FUCK!

I seen TWO quality starts yesterday!
And we lost both times!

Hey Jamie...
here’s one for the road…

Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
there were a few people still paying attention.
I was at that game, and of the 100 or so O’s fans, about fifty were yelling threats and obscenities at Jamie walker. he heard that shit too.
I was behind the visitors dugout, and could hear taunts coming from as far as 10 rows behind the O’s dugout.
jamie walker would do best not to show his face in public.
Also… Trembley said after the game that he wasn’t actually supposed to come in at all. It was supposed to be Jim Miller, who was up and throwing and then felt a wince of pain at the last second, although that’s no excuse for not bringing in Mickolio, or you know, ANYBODY else.

it's a shame
Walker’s a hell of a good dude, but this has been a putrid season. I’m sure he knows.

I actually get the genuine impression that Jamie’s not one of those guys that doesn’t care about his performance more than the money. He seems like the kind of cat that wants to earn his keep instead of just cashing in.

I'm betting he's losing sleep
That’s what makes this so sad. You just KNOW it’s not lack of effort or heart. He just doesn’t have it anymore.

Yeah I definitely heard the word "worthless" once or twice
But I dunno, I was sitting in the lower reserve on that side, and that’s where almost all of the Rays fans were, so when they were scoring runs I was hearing cheering more than most.
But yeah I saw a lot of fans who were really paying attention. I bet there were a lot of baseball fans as compared to kinda-watch-the-Orioles fans. Wanting to see the “Amazing Rays” play.
There were two good games, you gotta admit. And plus Boston won their game on Tuesday so winning a game would have been a retarded thing to do anyway. They reduced their magic number by three games in one day…
I’m really peeved at Olson for saying that he’s “not disappointed in his season” but for some reason I think he is worth keeping around. I think his quote might have been him trying to say the right thing to the media…

re: Olson
Doesn’t really matter. If he keeps pitching like this he can climb to the top of Mt. Rushmore and declare disappointment in himself, it won’t make him any less of a Norfolk Tide.
