Diamond Dave's contract renewed
Diamond Dave is coming back for 2009.
The Orioles announced Friday that they will bring Trembley back next season, exercising an option that was in the contract he signed last year. The club also added a team option for 2010.
So last year, the O's took off the interim tag and promptly lost 30-3 and stunk hard for the rest of the season. At least this year, the O's are already stinking hard. The O's tacked on an option for 2010 which suggests that Diamond Dave is still viewed with a bit of apprehension by the front office. It seems to says, "We kind of like you... but we're keeping our eyes open in case something better comes along."

I feel like I have more reservations about Trembley than most O’s fans. I find myself second-guessing his bullpen management, lineup construction, and roster construction relatively often.
However, I don’t think manager strategy has more than a marginal impact on wins and losses, and I like the stability of keeping him around.
He does seem like a very good field general, and he genuinely cares about his players and they seem to respect him.
Hopefully he’ll get some talent to work with before he leaves so we can judge him fairly.

+1, and I will even quote because it's just exactly what I would say

"I don’t think manager strategy has more than a marginal impact on wins and losses"
Except in the NL, where it has none.

i mostly agree
Lineup construction doesn’t matter too much, though picking which guys to put in certainly does.
his bullpen management is…odd…but he’s easier to watch than Tony La Russa, who is an infuriating ass.

BP management is horrible. His lineups are a little weird. For example, I thought Luke sat on the bench a bit more than I have liked in favor of Payton. But the guys play hard for him. He’s alright in my book.

Yeah
Bullpen management is his big weakness. He has a talent for bringing out the wrong guy. And, having brought out the wrong guy, for leaving him in.
I haven’t had a problem with his lineups. Both Scott and Payton have been really streaky players, so I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to picking between those two.
On the whole, I think he’s been a good manager. He brings an attitude to the game that I like. That was missing under the Mazilli/Perlazo regimes. The guy knows how to get kicked out of a game better than any manager we’ve had since Earl.

I wish he started Luke Scott more as well
but I’m fine with his handling of him. Luke Scott has performed well as a pinch hitter.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

He went out with Fahey to celebrate

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

We kind of like you… but we’re keeping our eyes open in case something better comes along.
The thing is that Dave really has no leverage, no other team would pick him up as the head honcho.

So does that mean we'll be giving up 30 runs tonight?

it certainly seems that way.

I hope not.
Chances are better that the O’s score 30 and give up 31.
