The Hardball Times Season Preview 2009
About a month ago, I noted in a short FanPost that I was done writing the O's chapter for the 2009 Hardball Times Season Preview book, and now it's ready to ship.
THT provided the projections, which I found to be solid and believable, and I got to work off of those, but mostly I just rambled on about the players when I got to do the player comments. I don't remember much of what I said, but I do remember comparing Melvin Mora to Barry Bonds, so there's that.
I also got to talk a little about the front office, the future, Ramon Hernandez's lack of effort, and Matt Wieters, but sadly I did not get to write about ZAUN, as he was not yet an Oriole.
David Gassko put up the official release notice last night, and from there you can buy the book or take a sampling of the Phillies chapter and read about the projections and all the other features. It's a fun read, plus it's a fantasy baseball resource, too! Everybody wins.
Except the Orioles. Spoiler: I projected them to be bad this year.

I guess they had to replace Eckstein's grittiness

There is no replacing the grittiness of Eckstein

Going out on a limb this year?
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Looking forward to reading it
But I disagree with your assessment. Orioles are gonna kick ass this year. Felix Pie, baby!

No no no
The Orioles are going to be good this year. Great, possibly. Seriously, this could be their year.
OK, I know its not true, but, at the beginning of the season, everybody needs to pretend. Whip up some kool-ade and break out the optimism. And it needs to be convincing.
Remember, that brief period of unwarranted, irrational optimism at the beginning of the season is all we Orioles fans ever get. Please don’t take that away from us.

BUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT
If we expect them to be terrible, and they’re merely bad, isn’t that outperforming our expectations?

We have all season to expect the worst
Might as well delude ourselves at the beginning.

Hey, I can do this optimism thing!
I honestly thing we have a great chance to be a mediocre team this year!
