Chitter chatter
- According to raygu at faketeams, Leigh Hacksaw Hamilton said on his XM radio show that the Orioles are interested in Andruw Jones, who is available for a paltry $500k. This sounds like someone trying to use the O's to make a player look more attractive, as I can't see any reason on earth we'd want another fourth outfielder, one who didn't hit over the Mendoza line in 75 games before he got injured last year.
- Roch says that the Greg Zaun talks continue, but that Zaun is looking for a two-year deal. I can't see any reason on earth why we'd want Zaun for two years, either.
- O's Spring Training tickets go on sale Saturday. Get your early view of Matt Wieters while you can!

No to Andruw
Although the way things are going, he’ll be our opening day 1B.
Mark - Ah, it’s good to be back in Maryland. All the stress of the last few weeks has really made me miss home. There’s no place like home for Christmas, right mom?

Andruw Jones, who is available for a paltry $500k.
Huh? He reworked his contract to $5M for 2009. I thought the Dodgers wanted to move him at that price not $500K. At $500K, i guess he might make sense. I would rather use Lou Montanez as our 4th OF though. Lou will cost about the same and play at a comparable level.

What about the rest of the years? Andruw still has something like $11M coming his way.

Hmm, looks like you're right.
The Dodgers will solicit offers for Jones in the hope that a team might take him at his newly discounted salary of about $5 million. ESPN’s Buster Olney suggests that the Braves, Reds and Mets might be interested, although a baseball source told The Times that teams might decide to wait for Jones’ release, knowing that the Dodgers have agreed to let him go if they cannot trade him. In that case, whatever team signs him would be obligated to pay only the minimum $400,000 salary, with the Dodgers responsible for the balance.

I would hope that
Lou would at least be able to hit for some type of respectable average, unlike Aaaandruw. No thanks, we are good on outfielders.

He’d be a nice backup in 2010.

He’s old, but would be getting plenty of rest.

Bring Andruw In
For a year or so. Only if it’s cheap like the 500k that has been noted. He’d be kinda fun to watch (maybe only to me) whether the decline continues or even if an unlikely resurgence occurs.

as for coke – well, he’s never failed a test. I realize that cocaine clears from urine pretty quickly, but I’d prefer not to rely on hearsay. I’ll give the man a break.

But not everybody is a regular like Andruw. I can’t remember the name of the strip club in ATL that Andruw was a regular at.

And not everybody...
walks into an Atlanta bar and loudly announces “I have $10K in cash – where can I get some coke?”
I think the ATL strip club that you are referring to was the Gold Club…

whatever
that description makes it even better. the o’s are terrible. they’re going to be terrible next year. why not have a little fun even if part of the fun is watching a washed up fatty. they have nothing to lose since losing is what they do. for some reason (again, evidently only to me) jones seems like an entertaining possibility. i guess i’m still remembering his sally league and durham bulls connections. and hell, if by some miracle he gets it going couldn’t he fetch a warm body from a playoff contender?

see my post below
but I believe Jones for one year just clogs up everything. Now if we can find a way to get an option in 2010 or further if he suddenly finds it again, then it might make some sense. Probably not likely but if they can restructure his contract one way lets get creative and restructure it one more time.

Andruw Jones on this team is an awful idea for one million reasons
It would be a good idea if the guy wasn’t past his due date. If we’re gonna have fun, we should just sign Drew Carey because the tub of lard isn’t doing very well on the Price is Right

Jones and Zaun
If we want to seriously think about Andruw Jones it would be under the following. Andruw you will come to camp at this weight. If not, your waived. Andruw we dont mind paying you. If you perform like last year, you get min. We will lay out a framework of parameters. For everyone you hit, you get more money with a max of say five million. That becomes your base salary for 2010 with another set of parameters. The bottomline is, unless we can get some kind of option what good does it do for us to have him, other then a mid season trade. If Jones somehow finds it then its found money and we might have a HoF left fielder. Not likely, but as good as time as any to find out. Otherwise, I wouldnt bother on a one year deal, just let Luke, Luis, Nolan and who ever fight for time.
Zaun wants a two year deal and if he can play on a contender more power to him. This one isnt rocket engineering. Place the offers and the first one to accept is in. I dont mind giving two year deals to Zaun or Pudge at the right price. The others should be one year deals.
