Yanks and Sox
It is hard in the AL East for the 3 other teams to beat both the Yanks and the Sox in any given year. This means that the Os, Rays, and Blue Jays must, unless lightening strikes, contend for the wild card. This where the unbalanced schedule hurts so much. The three stepchildren in the East must each play 18 games against the Sox and Yanks. I know that the Os achieve a sizeable chunk of their attendance from these two teams each year, but the team should agitate for a balanced league schedule.
hey it's a baseball quote, sort of....

Misery
I was forced to watch the game in a Yankee bar in Brooklyn after an engagement party last night.
Friends don't let friends

Hey Dave
I’m going to the Giants game next weekend as an honorary Giants fan. Any tips?

Sure!
Dress warmly. Its a night game and it doesnt matter what the temp. is outside the stadium, because the wind swirls in there like a biotch. If its cold outside of the stadium, its colder inside it.
I’m guessing your friends will be driving, but just in case, know that there’s no parking at Giants stadium without a pass. You either have to park in Lyndhurst and take a free shuttle (allow extra time for that) or do what I do, which is park at the Sheraton across the highway (on rt 3) for the 10 bucks or whatever it is and walk across. Plenty of other people do it and its ALOT better than waiting to get a shuttle with the other 40,000 fans that took the shuttle. You can also now take the train, which is MUCH easier.
This is only a Jets thing, but sometimes they show up at Giants games, so stay fairly clear of the gate C ramp. Thats the T-I-T-S chant area and the moronic fans can be quite vulgar and extremely pushy.
The only good place to tailgate is in the stadium parking lot, but as previously mentioned, thats only for pass holders. You can buy a pass online on craigslist or ebay usually (or even stub hub). If you do the Sheraton thing, there’s no tailgating there either, but if you feed the guards that drive around the lot they generally look the other way.
Again, i’m sure you’ll be with friends, but I used to live in E. Rutherford and currently live 12 minutes away. If you’re looking for someplace to go before or after the game, let me know. Whatever kind of place you’re looking for, I can tell you where to find it.
BTW
i’ll be in Bmore next weekend. I swear every time you come to NJ I go to Baltimore. I think there is some kind of Orioles fan balance between NJ and Bmore that cant be disturbed.
There can only be one...

Thanks!
I’m pretty sure the tickets we’re using are season tickets, so I’d imagine they come with a parking pass? Whatever, I’ll leave the up to the NJ folk to handle.
I’ll let you know if I need any pre/post game advice. I’m excited!

yep
season ticket holders are generally the only ones with the passes, so congrats! You get the complete NJ Giants experience! Should be fun. Kurt can play in the Meadowlands (he did so for a bit as Eli’s version of ZAUN) so he wont be afraid to throw it all day in that wind and the Giants should be p.o.’ed coming off that horrible showing at the Saints. Definitely a good game.
These are such great articles
I wish I had the time to comment and share my oh-so-fascinating thoughts on all of them… actually maybe that wouldn’t be so great for the rest of you (ha)… the point is, I’m really glad CC keeps posting such interesting articles about diverse (but still baseball-related) topics, and from diverse sources too. Please know that it’s appreciated!
Thanks, Nina :)
