Halloween Bird Droppings

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

AFL games to be aired on MLB.com and MLB Network
MLB Network will air two games from the AFL: the AFL Championship on 21 November and the Rising Stars game on 7 November. Might be a good chance to check out some of the young O's. -Stacey

Baltimore Orioles meet with Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman
Raise your hand if you think the O's have a chance at signing this kid. Anyone? No? Didn't think so. -Stacey

Cal Ripken's New Fields of Dreams
The Associated Press video reports on Cal's life after baseball, including his interest in one day being involved in the ownership of the Baltimore Orioles. -Stacey

Jeff Datz - More than you wanted to know
I'm sure he'll work out fine, but his answers to questions such as "How does a bench coach help during games?" don't exactly inspire confidence. -duck

Moeller move explained
Peter Schmuck does his best to explain the Chad Moeller move yesterday. He thinks it's highly likely Chad does come back next year. -duck

Hendrickson hopes O's wonÂ’'t wait
The Orioles ' exclusive 15-day negotiating window with pitcher Mark Hendrickson starts after the World Series ends. His agent hopes the Orioles will take advantage of the time to wrap up a deal for 2010. -duck

Hill, McCrory, and Simon clear waivers, outrighted to AAA
"The Orioles have outrighted pitchers Rich Hill, Bob McCrory and Alfredo Simon to Triple-A Norfolk, removing them from the 40-man roster. All three pitchers cleared waivers." Rich Hill cleared waivers. That should tell us something, I think, that 29 other teams don't want him. -duck

Adam Loewen not finding sucess in AFL
"The 25-year-old outfielder is hitting .171 with 17 strikeouts in 10 games for Phoenix. Four of his six hits came in one game against Scottsdale on Oct. 15." The one day I skip Dean Jones' article for posting ... and he comes up with this. I'll never miss you again, Dean. -duck

And in other news...

Fed-up Dawg Pound Cleveland Browns fans plan protest for Nov. 16 game
Some Browns fans are encouraging fellow fans to walk in late to the Nov. 16 Monday Night home game against Baltimore. But the tone of the protest is very different than you might imagine. -duck

Man uses spoon to rob bank
Give me all your money! Don't make me scoop you up! -Stacey

Am I missing something on Chapman?

He sounds like a decent pitching prospect with a 100 mph fastball and nothing else. He is a project, at best. If he were available in the draft, he might be in the top three rounds. BUT $40 to $60 mil? Who are they kidding? Can’t miss prospects like Matusz didn’t get anywhere near that. Chapman needs to be in the minors for a couple years to learn something other than a heater. Not worth that kind of money IMO. Let the big money teams take this gamble, not the Orioles. I would rather chase something that is a little more certain with that kind of money. Or sign ten good drafted pitchers. The odds are better.

The draft suppresses salaries and bonuses

If Matusz had been a free agent he might’ve commanded 40 million dollars…he certainly has a good chance to be worth that much over the next five years. Apples and oranges.

This is funny
A doctor at an insane asylum decided to take his patients to a baseball game.

For weeks in advance, he coached his patients to respond to his commands.

When the day of the game arrived, everything seemed to be going well. As the National Anthem started…….the doctor yelled, “Up Nuts” And the patients complied by standing up.

After the anthem …he yelled, “Down Nuts”. And they all sat back down in their seats.

After a home run was hit, the doctor yelled, “Cheer Nuts”. They all brokeout into applause and cheered.

When the umpire made a particularly bad call against the star of the home team, the Doctor yelled, “Booooo Nuts!!!” and they all started booing and cat calling.

Thinking things were going very well. The doctor decided to go get a beer and a hot dog, leaving his assistant in charge.

When he returned, there was a riot in progress. Finding his assistant, the doctor asked," What in the world happened? "

The assistant replied, "Well, everything was going just fine till a vendor passed by and yelled PEANUTS.

Did we give up anything for Rich Hill?

Die Loewen!

Vizzini: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates?
Man in Black: Yes.
Vizzini: Morons.

$25k

So, no, not really.

"I hate making excuses. If I suck, then I suck. And I suck. That's the way I'm playing. If you suck, you suck. You have to take responsibility in this game. Right now, that's the way I feel. Yes, I suck." - Jose Guillen/quote of the year
