There's a reason he never made it to the majors

…He’s not that good at baseball.

Oh, and he’s a stinking MFY fan.

Meanwhile, I assume that Stacey meant to switch to the sarcasm font for the blurb on Riggleman. The only thing that I can imagine is that the Nats’ decision makers have confused him with John Riggins and they think he’ll attract diehard Redskins fans to their empty mallpark.

Now that I reread it

You’ve got plausible deniability. All you said was “maybe” he would turn the team around. You know, just like “maybe” Luis Matos will be voted into the Orioles Hall of Fame some day. ;)

And when you toss yours at the Halladay signing, are we talking chunky style or creamy smooth here?

Actually, free Pepto for the whole media contingent before that press conference might not be a bad idea…

Billy Rowell

It’s hard for me not to obsess about Billy Rowell. Was he universally regarded as a hot prospect at the time, or was he more of a Matt Hobgood pick, something of a surprise to the baseball world?

Boy, I tell you

if the MFY get Halladay, I would very seriously have to consider giving up. It seems like I say that with every player they target, but it’s really starting to build up and wear me down.

Last night I was talking to someone

About how even if they don’t get Halladay in a trade they’ll probably sign him after 2010 anyway as a FA. I had a flashforward of next year’s offseason where the Yankees sign Joe Mauer and Roy Halladay and it was a horrible feeling.

seriously

just draft the fucking yankees and you’ll lead every fucking category.

wait...

you’re saying any fantasy baseball player could do Cashman’s job? Whoa…

by daveh873 on Nov 13, 2009 10:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

naw

i was saying that with a yankees lineup featuring a-fraud, tex, pujols, halladay, holliday, and rivera, you should just draft yankees players. you’d be guaranteed to win your league.

by twistedlogic on Nov 14, 2009 8:54 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I know

I was just inferring that all Cashman really does is pick the best fantasy line-up and sign the checks. Its not that tough. He hasnt really had to piece together a team since the mid 90’s.

by daveh873 on Nov 14, 2009 10:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

its okay

i saw on sportscenter that the yanks will “be more thrifty” in free agency this year. yea…sure….

by twistedlogic on Nov 14, 2009 10:29 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I believe it

they already bought everyone good. Just getting Lackey and Holliday is more thrifty than getting Tex, AJ, and CC, right?

by daveh873 on Nov 14, 2009 2:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

haha

i was thinking that myself. sooner or later, they wont have anyone to play as their roster will include ever player in major league baseball

Thankfully Pujols isn't going to leave the Cardinals

It would be mass hysteria if he did, and by all accounts he loves playing there. And the Cardinals are a competitive team every year so he knows he’ll win. Plus the Cardinals have a very rich history themselves so there isn’t that whole being part of the tradition thing going on. And I’d imagine Albert knows he has a good thing going being the biggest fish in that pond.

But yeah, if the Yankees signed Pujols I’d probably give up on baseball altogether and become a soccer fan.

You say that like it's a fact though.

I would say he’s 75% going to stay in STL, but it makes tons of sense for him to say that he’s going to stay in STL up until the last possible minute when the Yankees throw Fort Knox at him.

by O'sFan21 on Nov 13, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have to say it like that

Because I can’t allow myself to imagine a world where Albert Pujols is a Yankee.

And if I’d had an Orioles message board to go post on in 1999 I probably could have been posting by 2:51 too.

My sister teaches middle school in Brighton, NY (just east of Rochester). First period: 7:10. That's a.m.

Just how much World History you can impart to 13 yr olds before sunrise is, how you say, a debatable point. Even more curious, p’haps, is the rationale the board uses: they save X money this way on…bus drivers. No sh*t, that’s the deal.

I admit, I have taught Russian at 8 a.m. (undergrads) and 8:25 (h.s.) — but in both cases it was largely on autopilot. The idea of starting a class at 7:10 is laughable.

OK, for those of you who made big rubles last week off the sweep -- U R velkom, as my students say. This week: uh, yeah...

I’m not so sure. Maybe halve your bets, double down, lay off a few points somewhere, something: this is a tough week…

- Yeah, starting with the book on Snodfart @ SC, in the Coliseum. The spread has been moving steadily all week— um, the wrong way, from 11.5 to 13 now. And the scary thing is, I don’t know why. Not a clue.

Sure, SC has the best roster, player-for-player/position-by-position, in the country; so what? They’ve played two very sub-par games (losses) and scored one [1 ] OFF TD last week in a major non-thrilluh. A low-end mediocre Stanford team about half as good as this (ranked!) one beat a similarly stacked SC in the colisuem in ‘07 (the greatest upset in point-spread history at -41; and I’m on record as calling that low, “more like 50”) . Anyway, unless you know something I don’t, take Stanford to beat -13 in a game which could easily go 90 pts.

- Somewhat easier to call (well, marginally) is ‘Zona by two over Cal at Bezerkely. Go with Cal (and Best), probably sizeably, although yeah, this is not really an analyzable team, I’ve decided. Their paper selves and field selves have basically a nodding acquaintance, seldom getting together. I happen to think they will this afternoon.

- This week’s Bad Dog at Home: Who really thinks UCLA is 18 better than Wazzoo up there in, what is it, Palouse-ville? This is an awful team which can make you money (and did) by losing by less than 27 to Notre Dump. Hee-hee, bet ’em again, arf-arf!
