Two bits of news:
1) I'm very happy to announce that Matt Taylor, the voice behind Roar From 34, will be joining the Camden Chat team as a part-time contributor. If you've read Matt's work you know that he has a real talent for writing about the Orioles and I look forward to him sharing some of that with us.
2) In more minor site news, you may have noticed a new item on the sidebar titled "Meet The Team." With the recent re-design there was about five miles of white space on the sidebars before getting to the bottom where our contributors names were listed. I thought that was ugly, so created the Meet The Team widget instead. The last link goes to the Who's Who at Camden Chat post. If you're new to the site or never wrote up an intro, click the link and tell us about yourself.

Is the countdown to Opening Day new also?
If so, both additions are very nice. I never noticed the site feeling “empty” in anyway, but you’re definitely not filling it up with stupid crap like other places are fond to do.

The use of Cake lyrics on that widget is blowing my mind

Is there ever a bad time to use Cake lyrics?
I think not.

Cake does rock the body that rocks the party
I’m actually referring to the dessert, not the band. Okay, it can be both.

Cake story
After college I was waiting tables at a certain low budget chain restaurant in Columbia. This restaurant had a deal with Merriweather to provide catering to the bands that played there. Cake and Graham Colton Band were playing there one day and my boss asked me if I I wanted to go over there and serve it or whatever. So I called my friend and the two of us were all excited because we loved ourselves some Cake back in the day. Then when we got there and the bands started arriving we realized that we had no idea what any of the guys in Cake looked like because all of their album covers are like, pigs and crowns and stuff. And we’d never heard of Graham Colton Band, so we didn’t know what they looked like. Finally though we figured it all out and talked with the Cake guys quite a bit. They were pretty much exactly as you’d expect them to be, and we got to watch the concert from backstage which was neat.

Ah, Columbia
Which low budget chain would that be? Chances are I patronized it, but that’s likely after your time (I lived there from 2005-2008).

You calling me old, Brotzy?
Pizzeria Uno. It was horrid. I actually worked at the place there before it, Z’Tejas. That was a great restaurant and I loved working there, but they went belly up and got replaced by gross old Uno’s. Probably a blessing because if Z’Tejas had stayed in business I might never have grown up.
I worked at Tejas/Unos from 08/03 to 12/04. Since I graduated from college in ’01, clearly when I said “after college” I was just trying to downplay my spotty employment history for the first half decade after I finished my education.
