Interesting

how it’s gone from Damn Yankees to Fucking Yankees or, in my house, and many others I’m familiar with, Goddamn Motherfucking Yankee Pieces of Shit. Real sign of the times.

The Onion writes the best Yankees stories

They are my preferred source of Yankee info.

“Alex Rodriguez Placed on Emotionally Disabled List”

“Yankee Fans Lure A-Rod Out of Dugout with Curtain Call in Order to Boo Him.”

“Mike Mussina Convinced He’s Won a World Series.”

“Spark of Humanity Fades From Mark Teixeira’s Eyes After Signing with Yankees.”

I wouldn't even know HOW to spend $10 million at Camden Yards

Let’s see, an obvious one is to improve ALL of the retired numbers. Not only does the aluminum look tacky, it’s easy for drunk 19 year olds to steal, see.

We don’t need a new scoreboard, in fact I would disapprove of any new blinking things at the Yard.

Cup holders for all of the seats? I think that one is impossible because it would eliminate a lot of legroom.

maybe some concrete needs reinforced or something like that we can’t see.

Yeah I'm sure a bunch of it is structural shit that just needs to be done every 20 years or so to maintain the place.

We’ll probably never see or care about whatever it is that they’re doing.

$10 M is almost nothing for that kind of thing.

When I was at the Yard for the last game of the season

the Legg Mason logo was gone from above the smaller jumbotron. Was the logo gone all season? Had it just been removed? What will replace it? I was kind of used to seeing it there.

Speaking of the numbers

what’s the deal with #42?

"I like baseball, movies, good clothes, whiskey, fast cars ... and you. What else you need to know?"

by Andrew @ TLC on Nov 5, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Isn't that Jackie Robinson's number?

I think his number is retired throughout baseball, so no one can use it again.

by PhilR8 on Nov 5, 2009 10:53 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No I'm saying it isn't in the area with the other numbers

Anybody know why not? Is it on display anywhere in OPACY?

It just seems weird to me.

Save your stamp, kid

When the #42 was officially retired in 1997, any current player wearing that number would be allowed to do so until he retires. And Rivera is the last one left.

You can't fix stupid. Stupid is forever.

by sluggo 2.0 on Nov 5, 2009 6:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What?

He said he was going to write a letter because the Orioles don’t have it on display anywhere. No one mentioned Rivera.

I didn't even know that 42 was there, even though I know it's retired.

I wish teams would make the number 42, you know, blue. I was at Nationals Park this summer, they have a banner for number 42, with the horrible red/yellow beleveling and all.

by Jonny Pops on Nov 5, 2009 11:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, it's a little tapped out

but there is still more talent there than would warrant making Mychal Givens the 8th best guy on the farm.

"I like baseball, movies, good clothes, whiskey, fast cars ... and you. What else you need to know?"

by Andrew @ TLC on Nov 5, 2009 12:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

“his strong eye, solid contact skills and above-average power."

In order to be an average 3B, you need above average power. Strong eye and solid contact skills are pretty vague. Strong eye suggests good plate discipline. Again something you’ll need just to be average unless you have insane power.

Bell should be higher especially above Hobgood. Actually, Hobgood is just too high in general. Matusz, Arrieta, and Erbe for the top three is a no-brainer. If they would have moved Hobgood to the bottom of the list, I would be fine with the list. The guys at the bottom aren’t great but there aren’t obvious cases to beat them. Maybe Oliver Drake, Caleb Joseph, Troy Patton, and, if still eligible for prospect status, Kam the Almighty should be up there instead of Avery, Givens, and Mr. Mandy Moore, but whatever.

Top Ten List

Pretty sparse. Boy, are we paying the price for so many years of draft futility. Our sparse list demonstrates that we simply cannot afford to trade prospects for a front-line corner infielder. We don’t have any talent surplus to deal. We need all of our prospects.

by BaltoBen on Nov 5, 2009 2:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That top ten list is pretty bogus

The talent has drained with the promotions of Reimold, Wieters, Matusz, Tillman, Hernandez, etc, but there are prospects in the system better than what’s being listed on THT list.

Has anybody been following the prospect article series on Bleacher Report?

They write very optimistically about all of them, but it’s still nice to have a feel for some of the guys in the lower minors that don’t get talked about much.

Aki is stoked about going to the Bucs

via MLBTR

Just two days after being acquired from Tampa Bay, Akinori Iwamura said he’s “interested” in exploring a long-term deal with the Pirates during a conference call, according to Dejan Kovacevic of The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

“I’m definitely interested in the long term, but I first have to do what I can do. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully, we can go to the playoffs next season.”

He knows he’s going to the Pirates, right? Not the Phillies?
