Sunday Open Thread
Did you know that we're just 100 days from Opening Day? Well, 100 days from Opening Day for the Orioles and the Rays because they start a day later than everyone else. I continue to be salty about the fact that my Opening Day is 1) a full day after other baseball fans get their OD, 2) at Tropicana Field, and 3) on a Tuesday. Tuesday! OD is supposed to be on Monday.
Today's picture is from Matt Wieters Day on May 29, 2009. It was an amazing day, wasn't it? Camden Yards was packed with excited Orioles fans, Matt Wieters got a standing ovation for fielding a bunt, Brad Bergesen pitched an absolute gem, and of course Luke Scott continued his dominance of the Detroit Tigers. The O's won the game 7-2 for their 5th consecutive win. It was one of those days when everything seemed right in the world. Here's your box score, game thread , and recap

Easily Best Day of the Year
I wasn’t going to miss Wieter’s Day, so my son and I headed to Camden Yards for the evening. Being there reminded me about everything that used to be so great (and will be again) about Orioles baseball. We were calling people as we drove down I-83 screaming “Happy Wieter’s Day” into the phone. We still talk about that night and I still have the tickets. 3E was tough and looked so much more comfortable throwing to a familiar battery mate. I’m much higher on 3E than most people, thinking he’s a legitimate low #2 – high #3. Low pitch counts and tons of ground balls make for a lot of quick innings and (hopefully) W’s. He doesn’t strike out a lot of people. So what? PHN saw him more than once and couldn’t do anything with him. Things are truly looking up at Birdland. Thanks Andy for having a plan and sticking to it.
I'm also high on Bergesen
I went to three defining games: his first, his last, and the game where his eight innings and one run wasn’t enough to beat the Red Sox. I missed Wieters night because of work but I was there the next night to see him create his first two hits, and I was there on bobblehead night to see him hit his first home run,

I didn't make it that night....
…but I was there the next night to see him get his first ML hit. That was the night they brought the MASN Fantasy Camp winners up for the game.
