Can't get enough bird

Didn’t they have new versions of the cartoon bird in the 2008 season? That was one of the only games I was able to watch online and loved every minute.

haha!

you did check my avatar, right?

anyways, obviously orange pants are no good. but didn’t they wear orange shirts with white pants?

I do like

the hats though. The black background with the orange brim…very catchy. That shade of orange is, I don’t know, too much.

Speaking of “Oriole Orange”, I would be interested to see some sort of color comparison to see the way the shade has changed in the uniforms over the years. I have various Oriole items and none of them seem to have the exact same hue of orange in them.

Chris Tillman, Brian Matusz, Jake Arrieta, and Zach Britton.

I would hope those 4 are as talented as the 4 we see above us one day. Plus we have people like Bergesen, Erbe, Berry, and Patton!

There’s also Hobgood and whoever they draft this year. With the 3rd pick in the draft, I’m hoping Andy continues stocking up.

The concept of trading arms for bats is growing on me. Especially since the guys they’ve churned out have been solid. If Hobgood and Berry turn out to be better than Tillman and Arrieta, there are two trade chips.

Stockstill has done a fantastic job finding incredibly talented pitchers in the draft. Couldn’t be happier.

Okay.

I don’t care what you guys say, those get more awesome every time I see them. They’re such an eye sore, it’s brilliant! Distract the other team/obscure their vision.

Economics 101

The Sun referenced John Henry’s remark that the economics of MLB are skewed because, due to the luxury tax,, 5 of the 7 chronically uncompetitive teams make a substantial profit. I guess that an owner can guarantee a profit by fielding a bad team of cheap AAAA players and then collecting a share of the luxury tax. I don’t know how the system works, but if it rewards a team for being terrible the system needs to be changed.

Also, it is great to see pictures of Mike Cuellar. He was an outstanding pitcher. It would be nice to have that quartet of pitchers again, although they can skip the ugly unis.

by BaltoBen on Dec 6, 2009 1:54 PM EST reply actions

I've thought about this a lot

and by “this” I mean the economics of baseball and how it affects parity, and I’ve come to a very definite conclusion: if we are serious about talking about competitive imbalance, the first thing that needs to happen is for every single owner to open his books and show everyone exactly how much profit or loss is coming through. Until that happens, everything else is just owners whining.

I really need to stop

reading comments on massively-visited sites. Ugh.

by daveh873 on Dec 6, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

Don't ever go on OH, then.

It’s being dominated by the sorts of people that have no goddamn clue right now, and I wish I could reach through the computer to punch them in the throat.

I've never

actually read anything there. It’s incredibly disorganized and that turned me off right away. Why search from something readable when I can go almost anywhere else (mostly here) and find what I want much faster?

by daveh873 on Dec 6, 2009 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

It's the right choice

I keep going back though, probably as a way to remind myself to never become them.

We've now got one of my fellow Italians running the IBAF,

Just a fun fact. And hey, how about those giants?

"Chicks who dig home runs aren’t the ones who appeal to me, I think there’s sexiness in infield hits because they require technique. I’d rather impress the chicks with my technique than with my brute strength. Then, every now and then, just to show I can do that, too, I might flirt a little by hitting one out."-Ichiro

How about 'em?!

Forget turkey, forget presents, forget New year’s parties… the annual Cowboys December swoon is my favorite holiday tradition.

All I can say is

Go Ravens on Monday!

Nah

All about ’dem Pack.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I like them both

2 of my 2nd tier teams (Saints, Colts, Ravens, and Packers), but I have to go Ravens, just due to playoff implications for the Giants.

Matt Lindstrom?

He’s on the block and mlbtraderumors are saying two teams beside the Rangers and Rays are interested. Could the Os be looking at Lindstrom as another late inning reliever?

What would it take to get him? Does he make sense?

I’m saying ‘no thanks.’ I think he’d be shelled in the AL East and would require moving a minor leaguer to get him. That’s two strikes.

by Dr Orpheus on Dec 6, 2009 10:06 PM EST reply actions

wouldn't require much of a minor leaguer

he had a terrible season, ERA-wise. relief pitchers who aren’t “proven closers” have very little value.

I don’t know about Lindstrom in particular (was he hurt?), but I am very much in favor of making this kind of move for our bullpen – a guy who has the potential to be very good, even a closer, but with very low value for whatever reason. I think Andy MacPhail agrees, based on the Rich Hill acquisition in particular.

What about Kevin Kouzmanoff?

If the Os are looking for a right handed power threat that plays 3rd, why not trade for Kevin Kouzmanoff?

Sure, he hasn’t lived up to expectations, but the guy plays in Petco and has been moved from third to left and back over the last few seasons. Why not make the trade that gives him a change of scenery and gives the Os a possible right-handed bat for the middle of the line-up?

I mean, the bottom part of the middle of line-up, like sixth.

by Dr Orpheus on Dec 7, 2009 5:57 AM EST reply actions

Ugh!

Only if we can somehow get Rad Liz back and trade him straight up for Kouz.
