BP thinks Matt Wieters is pretty good too
Baseball Prospectus came out with their top 100 prospects today and the future HOFer is #1. No surprise, it's either him or Price. Other Orioles are Chris Tillman at #16, Brian Matusz at #19, Jake Arrietta at #52, and Brandon Erbe at #98.

A lot of these predictions are getting a little redundant, but its February and Ft. Lauderdale hasn't opened yet so what the heck.

It's getting to be a consensus.
Wieters=stud.
And I am STILL surprised to see Matusz ranking so consistently high. That wasn’t such a heralded pick when it happened, I don’t recall any of the analysts saying he’d be a top 20 prospect in baseball. It was all about how polished he was already.
From the Land of Pleasant Living...
Agreed
Kind of. I think Matusz was very well regarded when drafted, but I didn’t think he was top 20 right off the bat. The extent of his pro-career has be the Arizona League, which at the end of the day is just the Arizona League.
But I’m no scout, so I’ll more than take their opinion.

In my opinion
He was the best pitcher in the entire amateur draft, so that has to count for something. Matusz didn’t/doesn’t get a ton of press because he does not posses a Ben McDonald type of arm.
I think we’re seeing Brian being rated pretty highly because I don’t see him as a boom/bust prospect, but rather as a dependable kid who you can count on to have a pretty decent career.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
I had an
entire response typed out about how he isn’t a flashy kids but gets people out and how I saw him pitch twice against the University of Oklahoma and then realized I had Brandon Crow stuck in my head from a draft projection.

If so, can someone go ahead and harvest his sperm to produce future Os HOFers?
I totally nominate you
to handle that.

Scouts love his stuff
And he’s still 20 years old. I read something not long ago saying that he probably had the best stuff and the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the Orioles system. But obviously he’s going to have to control it.

Right. I’m not getting tired of these write-ups in the least as Matt Wieters is truly something to get excited about.

Matt Wieters, your next Secretary of Commerce.

Has he paid his taxes?
That seems to be about the only prerequisite left for getting onto Obama’s cabinet.
Nice to see indeed
Goldstein seems to have changed his tune for the better on the O’s prospects.
From back in June:

hm (tampa): Better top 4: Price/Beckham/Hellickson/Davis or Wieters/Matusz/Tillman/Arrieta?
Kevin Goldstein: Tampa — it’s not even CLOSE.
Those 4 Orioles rank 1/16/19/52 on this list, while the Tampa foursome rank 2/15/29/NR.
