O's In Philadelphia June 19, 20, 21
Hello all. just wanted to let you know if interested, the Phillies put tickets on sale for this year. The O's are coming to town June 19th, 20, 21st. You can buy them here: http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=phi&m=6&y=2009
Sunday as of now is standing room only available(which have amazing views), but tickets are available for friday and saturday. I enjoyed watching the last time the O's came to Philly,( it kills two birds with one stone for me, I get to see both of my teams live) and if you guys haven't yet been to citizens bank park, I highly recommend it.

I'm going up there
I have a cousin in S. Jersey that has a season-package and we’ve already been making arrangements.
I’m also trying to see Pittsburgh’s stadium at some point.

am I allowed to wear an opposing team's jersey?

It's not a problem at CBP
Except when the Mets are in town or college night.

PIT's stadium is gorgeous
although the outfield horizon lines are messed up – it’s not one clean level like Camden Yards – it’s like someone remembered 3 days before opening day, “That’s right, we need a batting eye! And a scoreboard! And where did we think we’d put the bullpens again?”
But street level and in the seating bowl, it’s gorgeous. And I love the way the close the 6th Street (Roberto Clemente) Bridge to auto traffic before the game to let everyone from downtown just walk to the stadium. I’ll be there for a game this summer in July. I highly recommend a game there!

Sounds great
I’m definitely checking out anything Clemente around the stadium. He’s easily my favorite player that I never had a chance to see.

Beautiful statue of him on the grounds.
And a walkway filled with memorials to great Negro League players who came through Pittsburgh. It’s a great stadium, just a slight notch below Camden Yards.

I wish Camden Yards had the open concourses, though.
It was great to walk into the game right after started and not actually miss anything happening on the field…and you can get really good seats relatively cheap, which is nice.

Yeah I like that in a park
It’s one of the things the newer parks have gotten right.

I thought the Philly park
was nothing more than a bad Camden Yards knockoff. I was thoroughly unimpressed.
Also, I saw a 250 pound drunk guy fall over and rull down 10 or 15 rows of seats and knock a woman over. When security showed up to kick the guy out the fans booed the guards/cops and the woman who got knocked over. Then they let him stay and upgraded (presumably) the woman and her family. It was really pretty disgusting.
When he came back the whole section gave him a standing ovation.
I don't see it
I don’t really get CBP being a knockoff of Camden Yards. Obviously it uses some of the retro styling that CY uses, but that’s true of pretty much all the new non-roofed ball parks. CY is still my favorite park because of the character (and I’m sure the O’s playing there helps), but CBP is far more open and it’s nice to be able to see the game while walking around from the open concourses.
One thing they screwed up was the location though, it makes a lot of sense to put football stadiums outside of the downtown area, but Philly really missed the boat by putting the baseball park in a seperate sports complex area.

good point on location
One of my favorite parts about Baltimore is how when you come in from 295, the first thing you see are the stadiums. It makes me happy, every time I go there. Even if I have an appointment at Hopkins, not really looking foward to. The ballpark and the stadium greet me and I am happy to be in Baltimore.

Philly's downtown is kinda a pain to get to, though
At least that’s my impression. Baltimore has 95 slicing right into downtown. Philly is a little tougher. Maybe I’m wrong.
Also, the SEPTA makes the stadium not that hard to get to. The Light Rail? Eh.
The stadiums
are fairly easy to get to, at least from the south. And I’m terrible at travel directions and road signs, so that’s saying something. Been to the Linc once for a US Women’s Team soccer game, and it wasn’t hard to get to at all.

China Town
Was probably the most talked about location. Pretty much at the intersection of 95 and 676. Plus all the trains come into the convention center, which is right there. The Asian community here blocked it.

Of couse you can wear your o' stuff
Having been to many Phillies game I can say you’ll hve no problem, most of the fans will be friendly to you.
The only fans who ever have problems at Phillies games are Mets, and yankees and red sox, because they show up arrogant like they own the place. But as O’s fans were used to them showing up and being jerks. You’ll have no problem wearing o’s stuff. The phanatic might pick on you , but thats it, its all in fun. Last time they came o town I saw several o’s fans.. Enjoy the ballpark if you come.you’ll have a great time.
Phillies fans are NOT eagles fans!(which is why I can’t stand the Eagles!)

So which team will you be routing for
in this series? O’s or Phil’s?
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I root for the Phils because they're my favorite
Don’t be upset, Thankfully the dilema only comes up every couple of years.I root for the Phils(even when i go to Camden Yards when they play there) because I like them slightly more than the o’s and I am closer to philly by about 15 minutes. BUT if the o’s and phils ever met again in the world series, I would root for the O’s because they need to win one and the Phils won just last year. Thats the most honest answer I can give you. thankfully its only 3 games out of 162.
As far as the park being a knockoff of Camden Yards, just about every park the last few years is. The worst is Nationals Park. They tried way to hard, and I was unimpressed.. I hated that stadium..Camden Yards to me is the best park in baseball and would be PERFECT if it didn’t have so many damn obstructed view seats(which you can’t see anything from, believe me, I wound up in standing room after all I could see from my seat was the foul pole one game.., I’ll never buy a seat labeled obstructed view unless I really want to get into the game..but hey in 1992 they probably didn’t think about stuff like that.I too love Pittsburghs stadium. the worst seat in the place is very close to the field, it has the perfect design and a small capacity..
One final note, No matter what game you go to anywhere there s always a few drunken idiots. Sadly, i’ve learned to accept that. Usually they’re isolated, booing a cop is never acceptable, though I saw it in baltimore too when a yankees fan get into a fight with an o’s fan in the upper level 2 years ago, they booed the cops who broke it up.(Although as mentioned earlier, yankees fans are very arrogant., and he probably said something to incite the o’s fan)
That is why when available I always try to sit in “family” sections with no alcohol when available. Not too many pro teams do it, but when they offer it I take advantage.

Going
I’m going to be at the Friday and Saturday games. I didn’t get to go to many games growing up, though my first was an Os/KC game at Memorial Stadium. I went to maybe two Os games and two Phils games at the Vet before I moved to Baltimore and decided I would be, above all, an Os fan. But I still follow the Phils and was stoked to see them win the series this past year. I’m really excited for the interleague, but I’ll be representing Baltimore while in attendance.
Enjoy the game
Glad i’m not the only one who follows both teams. I bet theres a lot more fans who do in the Elkton, North East, Newark area who do, i just never hear from them.
Have a good time! I’ll probably be at sundays game, which is fathers day.
