Today's O's vs. Marlins Spring Training Game

The game isn't being broadcast by 105.7 today, but if you want to listen and don't have mlb.com's audio package, it'll be broadcast on the Marlins radio network, found here: http://www.790theticket.com/. Sadly I tried to tune in and my work computer doesn't have the right settings.

Koji Uehara makes his Orioles exhibition debut, also secheduled to pitch are Hayden Penn, Mark Hendrickson, Jim Hoey, and Jake Arrieta. It'll be interesting to see how Koji fares his first time out and I always have an interest in Hayden Penn. Jake had a good first outing vs Team Italia that he can hopefully build on.

The Orioles won't get to face Jay Gibbons this series as he's not scheduled to play the next two games. Too bad....haha.

Adam Jones is out with a sore arm so we'll get to get our first look at Felix Pie in the field playing CF. Here's the lineup in its entirety:

Ryan Freel - RF
Felix Pie - CF
Luke Scott - LF
Melvin Mora - 3B
Ty Wigginton - 1B
Matt Wieters - DH
Chris Gomez - 2B
Gregg Zaun - C
Jolbert Cabrera - SS
Koji Uehara - P

In other news, Nick Markakis has left the team to be with his wife as they await the birth of their first child, so we probably won't see him for a few days.

I know SC has professed his impatience with Spring Training but I'm quite the opposite. I love it. By the end I'll be ready for it to be finished, and I wish there were more games on TV, but overall Spring Training is such an exciting time for me.

Play ball!

Hey, I may get to see Jay play for the Zephyrs

Now that they’re the Marlins AAA team.

This, however, I take as a good sign

Jay, to Schmuck, on being released:

He was asked if he felt like he was made a scapegoat for his involvement in baseball’s steroid scandal, but he wouldn’t really go there.

“If I hit .300 and they released me, yeah’’ he said, "but I’m not a scapegoat because I hit .230.”

Wow, imagine that, a lack of “I’m the victim!” mentality. Good for you, Jay. Hope you make it back, as long as you’re not wearing an O’s jersey.

I guess he got his fair share of humility

after playing in the IL, minors, and VEN.

Yeah, I guess so

Kind of hard to hate on Jay after reading this quote.

by PhilR8 on Feb 27, 2009 2:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, I can’t hate on a guy who went all the way down to the Atlantic League to get his foot back in the game, when all along he still had many millions of the Orioles’ confederate dollars.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

When you put it that way

It becomes a lot easier.

Uehara

2nd inning, first two batters reached (1 on a ball that Luuuuuuke lost inthe sun). Koji came back to retire the next three straight, including striking the last guy out.

He's not a pefrect game kind of guy

but I’ll take anyone who can post a sub-4.50 ERA. Let’s go Koji!

Not bad for Koji.

1 H, 1 BB, and 3 Ks in two innings. Was the hit the ball Luke lost in the sun?

Although that’s the 2nd ball Luke has lost in two games. After he lost the ball against the Mets the guy on XM radio (can’t remember which one) was saying, “This guy is upset about losing time in the field and he’s misjudging fly balls? that’s great” or something.

He did lose it in the sun.

It dropped between him and Cabrera at SS, but it was his ball to get.

In the top of the 3rd, the announcers were saying how the Marlins LF Raynor was about to lose a ball in the sun as well. And then they said, “Nope, he seems to have lined up under it after all.”

Hendrickson getting shelled.

2-0 Marlins.

I guess it hurts to be facing a team that knows all your pitches and tendencies.

Welcome to the Os, Matt

Get used to standing on first base for an entire offensive half-inning. It’ll happen often.

Pie: K, BB, CS

3 true outcomes?

Younger writers, more attuned to the use of the Internet than their older colleagues, may not have a problem with the disappearance of the books. But in past years they didn’t have the Internet as an alternative reference site. They apparently just didn’t feel the need for any information the books provided.

YAY

We just nailed Raynor at the plate to end the fourth inning!

Pie on 2nd, Mora on 1st, 2 outs

Mora reached on an error by 3B. Scott Moore is pinch-running for him now.

Damn, I wanted Mora to have his first exciting play at the plate this year.

He doubled and advanced on a wild pitch

Gomez drove him in with a grounder.

Arrieta mows em down

1K and 2GO per the live box score, which also gives us a run but not in any of the innings…handicap?

Yeah, the player from the website doesn't broadcast games, apparently

I listened to commercial for garcia and garcia tax professionals for ten minutes before I realized that they weren’t broadcasting the game

it was playing ads the entire game.

i tried to listen that way first, and it never carried the game as far as i can tell.

by zknower on Feb 27, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And probably never will

I think there’s some kind of MLB rule against the radio stations broadcasting the games online, of any kind. At least, I have sure never had luck with this. A few summers ago I spent time in the confines of Kent State University and I thought, “At least I can listen to the games on WBAL online.” And all I ever got was ads. More recently I’ve tried to listen to 105.7 broadcasts online and encountered the same stuff.

I guess they want you to pay for MLB.tv.

Sorry about the bad link, y'all

The game was listed on that website as being on that station, and since 105.7 played the last game online I figured ST games weren’t covered under the same rules as regular games. I tried to check but my work computer is budget. Thankfully we had zk giving us updates!
