Heard "How Bout Dem O's" on WTMD today
Around 2PM I was driving home and for some reason I had my XM off, so I was listening first to 105.7 The Fan, but changed the station after some inane caller was asking if the Terps could win the tournament. Um, the answer to that question is no. Anyway, I switched to WTMD and it was some kind of cool twangy song, so I kept it there.
The next song came on and it sounded really familiar, but I couldn't really place it... it was just a piano and some guy singing about hanging on for the past ten years... and I was totally digging it. And then the song kicked up a notch and I knew that it was the How Bout Dem O's song.
Even though I've listened to the song a bunch of times on the internet, listening to it on the radio, especially when I wasn't expecting to hear it, was such a joy. I turned it up and was singing along... I was literally pounding my fist onto my gear shift knob to the beat as I drove.
I'm so ready for the season to begin. As one spammer on the Midnight Sun blog commented, "0-162 I don't care! Die Hard Fans just love 'em all the time!"
Hell yeah, spammy. Hell yeah.

How did I miss this?
This was the first time I had heard this song! Just great!
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

It started on OH
And spread from there.
I like the song, but my issue was that a few of the players mentioned won’t be here by May. I’m sure this can be fixed a few times, but I don’t see this one being able to transcend time like “Orioles Magic.”
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

You know what How Bout Dem O's is better than
That Go Cubs Go song.

The only downside is “Go Cubs Go” is Steve Goodman and it can also be played every year. Good chance this song sounds stale by June.
Additional upside to “Go Cubs Go”: can be easily changed to “No Cubs No,” with “Hey Chicago, whaddaya say? / The Cubs are gonna choke today”

Yeah
The O’s song has a shelf life, no doubt.
One thing I hate about that Go Cubs Go is how I sometimes get it stuck in my head and it makes me want to bash my head against the wall.

I agree. Like right now that the mere mention of it has gotten it stuck in my head and is making me go crazy. “Hey Chicago, whaddya say?/Brian’s going to kill today.”
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Meet the Mets
belongs in a museum of 1960s culture. It’s laughable when they play it at baseball games now.
I’d say this song, tune-wise, is about on par with Orioles Magic (so … not great), but the shelf life for How Bout Dem O’s is definitely going to be an issue. But Orioles Magic didn’t make the mistake of talking about guys like Wayne Krenchicki and Sammy Stewart… They’re going to have to re-record this thing every 3 months or else it’s going to be ridiculous.

They're essentially just reading the Oriole's roster
But whatever, it’s about the Orioles, I have to appreciate it at some level.

They do manage to incorporate a rally-type cry in there.
The chorus is really the meat of the song & I don’t feel as dirty as when they try to make the crowd chant the “O-EE-O” from the Wizard of Oz.

I still get chills
when I hear that song. I’m so lame.
It doesn’t exactly get me pumped up for Orioles baseball, but it does the best job of capturing Orioles history/sentiments. Also it’s the best SONG of any of them.

It took me three tries to get past the opening lyrics and listen all the way through
Too whiny. They also boxed themselves into a single year of play with a roster call out.
