"I texted [Guthrie] last night," said Kranitz, who attended the game in Miami. "I just let him know that I thought it was time for him to come back and get in a regular turn here. I know he went to L.A. I'll call him on my way back from Viera, but I have tentatively penciled him in to pitch on the 22nd. I don't think they really need any more starters, so in my mind, there's no need for him to be there. He needs to be here and he needs to pitch, and that would work out perfectly for scheduling purposes and for him, too."

USA
Let the man pitch for his country. As dumb and pointless as most people think the WBC is, it’s the only chance these MLBers have to represent their homeland. He just flew from Florida to LA and you want him to hop on a plane and come back already?
No, Kranitz has a point
Why should the Orioles allow an outside entity to alter the prep work of their staff ace? Look, I hope the good ol’ USA does well. But Guthrie is NOT getting in the work he needs. And the Orioles’ first priority (much like the Yankees, Cubs and other teams that have denied players, specifically pitchers, permission to participate) is to their fans to field the best team possible with the best preparation possible. So bring him back here and let him get on the Orioles’ throwing program.

Plus he won't even pitch again
There are only two more games, the semi-final and then if they win, the final. That’ll be Peavy and Oswalt. It’d be nice for him to stay with the team the entire time but the way the O’s pitching staff is shaping up all efforts need to be taken to ensure Guthrie is ready to go.
I will not rest until America has universal health care and Derek Jeter is seen for the overrated starfucker he truly is! ~2632
plus he looked like shit.

The only thing Guts would get out of staying in LA
would be a really good seat to the game.
Oh, and way too much time off. Get back here!
What Ted Williams didn't realize when he asked to be frozen was that when he is revived he'll have to hear about how Matt Wieters was the greatest hitter that ever played baseball.

I think he should stay with Team USA. Let him throw a simulated game at Dodger stadium. I’m sure they can figure that out. If the USA wins, he deserves to be part of the celebration imo.
Librarians are hiding something
I agree to an extent.
Bring him back now and get him on the O’s program he needs to be on, and pitch the 22nd. And if USA makes the finals on Sunday, let him go be with those teammates that day. It’s a lot of travel, but I’m sure he could handle it.
come on guys
let guts stay. Sure, he has been struggling, but he’s on the team. They actually have a chance at winning the WBC, why not let him stay there and be a part of it? Yes, he won’t pitch, so I hope he can get a simulated game in. Go U.S.! and o yea, go o’s!
I bet if he went, “I really really want to stay,” they’d let him. But they’re the ones paying him money to pitch. They’re just asking him if he can come back to work since his vacation is really pretty much over.

The real story here
Is that Rick Kranitz texts.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
And that
he chooses to use it to have a somewhat major discussion with his ace. How about a little professionalism, Rick?

This is how people communicate now. At least he didn’t ICQ him.

+1
I just updated mine to “waiting for Guts to come home from LA”
How could he be doing his job when he didn't throw me out of the game after the things I called him?
On arguing with ump Russ Goetz.
