Hendrickson scratched, Eaton ready to be elite
Mark Hendrickson was scratched from his start today, but expected to be back to activity in a couple days. He's the fourth pitcher this spring (after Hennessey, Parrish and Hill) to come up lame, even if short-term.
USA Today believes this "validates" the signing of Adam Eaton, who remarked, "I need to prove myself as an elite pitcher in the league."
Ahahaha, OK, dude. You know what? Go get 'em. If you're going to start being elite, I'd be happy if you did it as an Oriole.

Elite?
I’d settle for average.

Even that would be unprecedented
His ERA+ has ranged from 69 to 93 every season from 2001-2008. 100 is league-average. His rookie season, 2000, he was at 103. Dude was 11-5, 4.27 in 2005, his “career year”. Not exactly elite, huh?
Man, what was Pat Gillick smoking when he signed this guy to a $24 MM contract?

Wasn't he traded straight up for Chris Young???

Agreed, but 93 is about league average for a starter.

well...uh
Yeah, it’s “about” league average. It’s seven points under. It’s not average.

For a starter
For a starter was my point. Most years starters are around 94/95

well ok
He’s done that three times. Once in 135 innings, the second time in 117, and the third in 183, which was in 2003. Then he threw 199 innings the next season (84 ERA+) and has thrown 129, 65, 162, and 107 innings the last four years. He might well have an ERA+ of 174 this season but it’ll probably come in 50 innings. He only occasionally really “counts” since he doesn’t stay healthy. Eaton’s career has been one mess after another.

In the Phillies team article in Baseball Prospectus
they say that removing Eaton from the team was “addition by subtraction.”
So whenever we start to suck this year, we can just get rid of him.

So us picking him up
must be subtraction by addition

well that's the last thing you're getting
If they wanted someone to eat innings they should’ve F-ing kept Daniel Cabrera.

I don’t know how many innings Eaton is going to eat, but we are getting him for 1/10 the price that Danny would have reportedly received. And he signed a minor league deal.

a guess
I don’t know how many innings Eaton is going to eat
Not many. Not 1/3 of what Cabrera will give the Nationals.

Just looking at the progression of Eaton's era
in the AL East he could challenge worst era of all time…unless he has been hurt I just cant see how he is going to eat many innings….lets see if he can get anyone out in spring training but this just doesnt look good.
