Open Thread: WBC and O's v. Mets
Everybody Wang Chung today. There's baseball all over the TV. The WBC has been a load of fun so far, and Team USA has actually showed up this time for those that are rooting for the Americans. Bruce Chen and the Panamaniacs are already out, though, so I'm sad.
Schedule:
1:10: O's v. Mets in St. Lucie, MLBN and MLB.tv
6:30: Italy v. Canada, MLBN
6:30: Netherlands v. Puerto Rico, MLBN
8:00: Mexico v. South Africa, MLBN
Korea won Pool A this morning by beating Japan, 1-0. Hell of a game. Korea-Japan rules.

I just can't wait for Wednesday
I don’t know what the hell got into me yesterday and made me miss one of our special games on the radio.

Italy v. Canada
An elimination game…are you ready to face the rest of the WBC without Mike Costanzo? I still can’t imagine why they didn’t convince Piazza to actually play for the team. Even at his age, and not having played anywhere in ’08, he has to be better than most of the shlubs on that team.
sweeeeet
Get to see Koji on TV today!!!! Let’s baffle some Mets, even though a good chunk of their big-timers are in the WBC
oh, screw you MLB network
the game isn’t being carried anywhere else, why the hell does it need to be blacked out and replaced with the “2001 Yankees are Just Like Jesus, But Better” HBO doc?

NO!!!!!!
I was all pysched to get home and have this on my TiVo!

O's - Mets on MLB Network
But in NC it’s blacked out. Weird thing, though, is that it’s on SNY. For us that’s DirecTV channel #213.
blacked out in York
…looks pretty blacked out up here in York, PA. Hopefully this is just filler until first pitch?
freel hit it well for a double
jones hit it well but it was a lineout, and montanez just hit it down the line for a double.. o’s lead 1-0
So is MLB Network
Showing the game or not in the Baltimore area? Anyone know?

Did You Know
Did you know that Mike Piazza and Liza Minnelli single-handedly rebuilt New York City after 9/11? I think that’s what MLB Network is trying to tell me.
I thought Derek Jeter did it all?
God do I hate New York teams.

Whoa there 30seven!
Easy with that profile pic! I guess you could go the Vanilla Ice route and say that yours is different because mine goes “dum dum dum dada dum dum” and yours goes “dum dum dum dada dum dum DONG”…
The blues have always been American, as American as apple pie. The question is...why?
AVATAR FIGHT!
You won’t hit him!

I am pretty sure that this logo
appeared on the shoulder of the uni’s from ‘55-’62, and for some reason featured the white bill. I am not sure where yours is from, but I do like the hat and the orange emphasis outline.

Agree to disagree...
It is actually an “updated” version of your logo/avatar that the O’s wore from ‘65 to ’67. So, like Vanilla Ice and Queen, we’re both kinda right here. Friends?
Friends for sure
But isn’t it Vanilla Ice and David Bowie? “Pressure, coming down on me…”

Technically speaking...
…it was a duet between Bowie and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. So again we’re both right.
Pie with a nice swing, bit of power...
but he popped out to right center, a bit short of warning track
It's blacked out in Maryland?
THAT SUCKS. I don’t understand those effing blackout rules.

Serious?
that sucks… I live in northern new york, and I have it. Well, it’s on the MEts channel, SNY. Someone said the MLB network feed is on MLB.tv, if you have that.
So I'm gonna have
a Yankeeography on my TiVo instead of the game? I can’t hit delete fast enough when I get home!

Easilly the worst “baseball movie” ever.

Well I can't watch it because I'm at work
But that’s what I’ve gathered from the comments here.

nice wigginton to uehara play at first to end the inning...
koji’s forkball is on, but the mets were hitting line drives all inning off of his fastball, plus a walk or two
keefer started the inning, loaded the bases and got the 2 outs....
then trembley brought in the lefty castillo, to face a lefty. but nick evans from the mets came in batting right handed, and bombed one over left field. Flat fastball right down the middle, thigh high
All right lets go!
Netherlands-Puero Rico. I’m routing big time for the Netherlands even if 90% of their team were born outside of Holland.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Whooo!
1-0 Netherlands. Bernie Williams played that Halman double very poorly, really misread it, and he doesn’t have the speed to make up those kinds of mistakes anymore.

Ugh, Bernie
He looked terrible coming around third and getting thrown out at the plate (by former O Eugene Kingsale) as well. I always liked him more than most of that annoying Yankees crew, but watching him now is kind of sad.

Italy is also beating Canada!
Although I can’t seem to find it on TV anywhere.
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
well hopefully mlbnetwork goes to italy-canada
if the puerto rico-nederlands game finishes before it
What amazing baseball
Is it just me or has the 2009 WBC already been more compelling than the 2006’s in its entirety? The Netherlands/DR game, USA/Canada, Australia/Mexico, now this Netherlands/Puerto Rico game? Its been totally thrilling baseball… IN MARCH!
I really thought The Netherlands might pull it out
Hell of a game.
Looks like Canada is going to be eliminated.
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
Yeah, a shame really
Looks to me like they had pitching and defense, but the pitching fell apart in the 8th there.

Great game
That was an awesome game. Felt like it lasted 6 hours, but it was killer.
Well...
no Adam Loewen this time, what do you expect?
Duck Around - a progressive blog about the Eastern Shore of Maryland. And getting off my lawn.
Canada got pwned
Italy beat them? Seriously? And don’t look now, but Mexico might actually get eliminated by South Africa.
Team Canada pitching SUCKS
Without, y’know, Loewen and Bedard.
