Chris Ray???
Does anyone know who won the closing role? Will Sherrill start the season or will they go with Ray?

Sherrill for now
They don’t want to put any pressure on Ray. I hope it doesn’t last long though, Sherrill should be a lefty specialist.

nah
he’s good enough to pitch to righties.
I’d like to see him as the 7th inning guy followed by Johnson and Ray
Not really
He gave up a 787 OPS to righties last year. That’s pretty bad for a closer. Compare that to lefties, who had a 534 OPS, that’s a pretty huge split. I know a lot of people really like George here, but his ERA was pretty piss poor for a closer (4.72); and that seems mostly because of his numbers against righties.
When used primarily against lefties, he puts up great numbers.

He should be Jamie Walker
I don’t even like the idea of designating him for the 7th or 8th. If there’s no LH bats up in that inning, what good does that do? Maybe he’s too good to be strictly a LOOGY, but that’s where he excels. Against RH? Not so much…

Sherrill Johnson Ray
If Sherrill produces like he did last year before he got hurt then we could have him, Jim Johnson, and Chris Ray pitching the seventh eighth and ninth inning. That would mean we would not give up late inning leads at all. Our starters and middle relievers would only have to go six innings. That would take a lot of pressure off of Guts and company. Hell, we could even put in Sarfate in the sixth and have four closers in a row.
Can't do that EVERY day
Even relievers need the ocassional day off. Can’t ask Ray to close 4 days in a row. OK, that’s assuming the O’s are ever in a position to win four in a row, but still…
