Game 4 Lineups (vs Rays, 04/10/09)

The lineups

By Roch Kubatko on April 10, 2009 3:31 PM| | Comments (0)

For the Orioles:

Brian Roberts - 2B
Adam Jones - CF
Nick Markakis - RF
Aubrey Huff - 1B
Melvin Mora - 3B
Luke Scott - DH
Ryan Freel - LF
Gregg Zaun - C
Cesar Izturis - SS
Mark Hendrickson - P

Manager Dave Trembley wanted to get Freel in the lineup. He knows it's going to be difficult, with Scott, Felix Pie and Ty Wigginton also on the roster, but he did it tonight.

For the Rays:

Bartlett - SS
Crawford - LF
Longoria - 3B
Pena - 1B
Burrell - DH
Kapler - CF
Navarro - C
Zobrist - RF
Iwamura - 2B
Sonnanstine - P

Why is this surprising?

I truly don’t understand the Pie hate.

I'm thinking

he meant its surprising that Pie is out of the lineup after the job he did yesterday.

Hendrickson

I have a really bad feeling about this…

Freel

is really the guy who I want to get the least PT of our Pie, Scott, Wigginton combo. Least skills/upside. There are enough ABs for those three, but Freel just seems like he’ll get in the way.

It’s the fourth game of the season. Managers like to get everyone some work in the first week or so before everyone settles into their spots. Freel isn’t going to take ABs away from anybody unless he’s hitting better than them.

I'll give Dave the benefit of the doubt

But he was still plugging in Payton, Millar, Hernandez, and Walker at the very late stages of the 2008 campaign.

I could care less about Ryan damn Freel hitting better than Pie; the guy has no place in our future plans.

I’m not going to get overly upset until Trembley does begin to deny Pie some time, but there aren’t many excuses past the first two weeks.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
