Orioles Announce 2009 Opening Day Plans

The Orioles have announced the schedule and Opening Day festivities for Monday, as detailed by WJZ. This will undoubtedly be another long season, but Opening Day is always a day to celebrate as far as I'm concerned.

Schedule of events:

  • 1 p.m. Gates open
  • 1:25 - 2:25 Orioles batting practice
  • 2:25 - 3:05 Yankees batting practice
  • 3:05 - 3:25 Field Prep
  • 3:30 Opening Day ceremonies
  • 4:05 PLAY BALL!

The WJZ story also reveals a list of new food to the ballpark this year, the most interesting in my opinion being the lobster corn dog. WTF? It's only on club level, so I'll probably never know exactly what that is. Advice to the Orioles concessions stands: work on keeping the nacho cheese hot this year, thanks.

The opening ceremonies will include the usual orange carpet and all that jazz, but will also have a demonstration of the upgraded sound and video system, which I'm excited about. Too often in the past few years has the PA system sounded like it was being run by an adult in a Charlie Brown cartoon.

I am so happy that Opening Day is almost here! I don't think I could have taken one more week of Spring Training. The weather forecast is cloudy with a 60% chance rain (boo!), but at least it's supposed to be 61 degrees. Our plan for Opening Day is to have lunch at Faidley's followed by beers at one of the nearby bars (probably not Pickles/Sliders...just too crowded for me) before getting inside for the ceremonies. Our tickets are in section 362, so if you're in the vicinity and you see a chick wearing these awesome shoes, that's me.

How many of you are going?

Club level tickets are worth it, at least once per season

I mean, they cost $75 (or did when I went two years ago) but it’s totally worth it, especially when it rains. We spent a three hour rain delay at one of the bars on the club level, got royally trashed, and then watched the rest of the game. It was an expensive but awesome game.

I've been in club level a few times

but never when I pay for myself. It’s nice, but if I’m going to pay that much I’d rather be closer to the field.

I’m going….three of us have tix in 372. We’ll probably head right to Pickles since I have to work in the morning.

Do the O’s always have twenty more minutes of batting practice than there opponents?

My O's opening

Last year, yes.

This year, not so much, as the Douchebag Universe is the opponent instead of the inoffensive Rays…

I'll be there.

I’ll also be at Faidley’s, specifically for the oysters, crabcakes, and Natty Boh – but now to look for someone wearing those awesome shoes. :-)

I'm bringing my family

To section 43 (or 45, I forget). I got on the 13 game Sunday plan, so my executive or whatever hooked me up with 5 tickets at $32 per, which is the season, non-prime rate. I thought that was pretty nifty.

But this is my first opening day and have almost no idea what to do. Probably headed up from the campus in Arnold around 1. I’ll probab;y just be fucking around up there until the game starts trying not to spend all of my money.

I'll be the one holding this sign...

Mark Teixeria’s contract…. $180 million
CC Sabathia’s contract….. $161 million
AJ Burnett’s contract…… $82.5 million

Having this d-bag on your team…

….PRICELESS!

is that from the new one?

I saw the cover and I was like, “Are you fucking serious, guy?”

He’s such a great baseball player but — and this has little to do with his Yankeedom — I just absolutely cannot stand him. I guess I get what people felt about Bonds all those years I liked him up until the end.

Lobster Corn Dogs...

sounds to me like PA wants to keep all the Red Sox fans happy when they invade the yard. At least make those chowderheads eat crab cakes daggummit!
