Trembley didn't shy away from the notion that Bergesen's debut might be the beginning of a new pitching era for the Orioles.
"It was only a matter of time before it was going to start,'' he said. "I said before the game, 'Win or lose, it was going to be a big day in the history of the Orioles. There's more coming. They're not here yet. Bergesen is the first guy, let's enjoy him."

Whenever I hear Trembley talk like that I get all giddy inside.
It’s like when you KNOW you’re getting ready to get a big snowstorm, you just don’t know how big. All the excitement and anticipation leading up to the snow… and then, the first few flakes start to fall and you just KNOW it’s only going to get totally more AWESOME… not rad (definitely not rad), but AWESOME!

Andy Sonnastine
meet Brad Bergeson…alright now we have three starters…
Paging Troy Patton…Mr. Patton….just getting Patton and Hill up here and it would almost look like a rotation…but at least just hearing Simon, Eaton and Henrickson (although he has been ok-the defense has screwed him some but he is still Henrickson) wont make me puke…
I heard a rumor we have some other pitching prospects…let the competition begin and right now soon…

It's pretty badass.
Bergesen isn’t even in the next Holy Trinity. Then we have Berken winning his AAA debut last night. Hill reportedly little less than a month away, Patton waiting in the wings… all of that before Matusz/Arrieta/Tillman are expected to make their first appearances. OH, and Matt Wieters allegedly coming sooner rather than later to an OP@CY near you. This team isn’t going to win as currently constructed. The good news is, it likely won’t stay constructed as such for long. Schmuck is even reporting whispers that guys like Freel are on the outs with the club in favor of our own prospects.

Freel complaining about his situation......
Just made up my mind he was not the “gamer” he was made out to be. A throw-in from Cincy trade. They wanted to rid themselves of him too. Bring on the young players and lets use the Devil Rays (Yes I said “Devil”) blue print and see what happens. I am so pumped right now for the O’s.

In a month...
Our rotation could very well be
Guts-Koji-Hill-Bergeson-Patton
That’s a slightly different animal than Opening Day, huh? Add Hendo into his pre-destined role as lefty long guy, and we might just have something resembling a MLB pitching staff.
Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.

I'm guessing
it’ll take Patton longer than a month to get here.

OK, wrong choice
Insert Hernandez instead.
And as pointed out above, we haven’t even touched the Big Three yet.

Probably a good guess
But I’m not sure I get it. Isn’t he starting games in Bowie? Or is he working out of the pen? (Bowie’s website is terrible)
I realize they are trying to go slow after his injury, but is pitching in AA somehow easier on your arm? Patton’s been throwing since early March, where as Hill just starting throwing again a few days ago.

OK everybody settle down.
We’ve had one good start from a yung’un. That’s it. I know it’s Trembley’s job to encourage the team and the fanbase. But he has a penchant for hyperbole and grandiosity in these post game press soirees. Let’s just keep it sober.

I gotta agree with Jon on this one.
We don’t know that Bergeson is a Major League pitcher yet, let alone Hill, Patton or Hernandez. As much as I want to be excited and optimistic, experience has shown that betting on young pitchers up from the minors is a sucker’s bet.

Add to that Matusz, Tillman, and Arrieta
I’ll grant the consensus is they have better odds or being decent pitchers, but being touted as a big league starter is different than being one.

I appreciate you trying to keep us grounded, JP,
But hope has been a long time comin’ around these parts, and now it appears to finally be on the horizon. A little giddiness, even a little hyperbole and grandiosity, is to be expected.
I still remember the days when we were hearing how Ryan Minor, Willis Otanez, Calvin Pickering, and Jerry Hairston were the future Oriole All-Stars. Today’s bevvy of future Os is an entirely different animal.

Waters had one good start
granted me was older and didn’t have the same stuff, but I want to see a string a good starts first, then I’ll join the party train.

and a couple more so-called “quality starts.” his first start was pretty awesome, though.

Doubleheader at Bowie haulted by Rain
We had Arietta pitching the first game and Patton the nightcap. the only one in disagreement with this matchup was Mother Nature. She dumped buckets her love on Prince Georges Stadium and the games were suspended until today. They will play the rest of the game started and a new game today starting at 11:05. No word who the pitchers will be. I would guess Troy Patton in the first game. There is also talk that Rich Hill be be in town for a couple of rehab starts as well as a chance Melvin Mora will take a few swings in the DH slot at Bowie soon. Don’t quote me. Just heard rumors

make sure...
that when you’re done, you remove the index card that says “PRESS” from your hat.
along those lines, i think more authority figures shoudl be required to wear sashes indicating their title and if we’re, indeed, in a new robber baron age, i gotta say it would be a lot easier to sort out the bad guys if people still wore monocles.

What if riot police wore NFL jerseys with numbers on them? Then it’d be real easy to pick out the guy who was beating on an old lady. I’m all for it.

Yeah that's where I got the idea
I saw the link on reddit. Although I think it was just an idea right now. Anyway, I remember reading Paul Pope’s “Batman: Year 100”, and the riot police in the authoritarian Gotham of the 2030s wore hockey-style jerseys complete with team names and numbers. Cool stuff.

Bergeson looked OK out there. Hopefully, he can build on his success and make the rotation less painful to watch. Friends don’t let friends watch Eaton.

I think control guys
like Bergesen, Patton and Matusz have a better chance to succeed immediately after callup.
I worry more about guys that still fight their command in the minors like Tillman, Hernandez and Arrieta. Their ceiling is high (probably higher), but they seem to take their lumps getting adjusted, or some just don’t adjust despite success in the minors (I’m looking at you Radhames and Garrett).

The second and third times are the most important
Apparently if you’ve never seen a pitcher before, your chances of hitting are smaller. It’s always about the second time through the line up, the second time you start against the same team, the second year after major leaguers have gotten used to you. That’s the real test.
But hey, if this is the start of a “new era” then I’m glad that I was at the game last night.

None of the Sox hitters had seen Bergesen before
Let’s just wait a couple of starts before we declare him a suitable rotation placement. Wait, who am I kidding, He’s probably better than Adam Eaton on his best day.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Bergesen
at best will likely end up a back-end guy. He is already exceeding any expectations we may have had, so I will take whatever he can give us.
And please, please, please, can we at least attempt to spell his name correctly.

bergesen
I watched Bergesen pitch & was very Impressed.he pitched quickly & to contact
he had a smooth flow to his delivery & seemed unafraid & cool on the hill. It
was fun watching him succeed.I think he will remain an oriole & improve as he
goes along. He is the first prospect I,ve seen in quite a while that looked ready
to pitch in the show.

I think he could be fine
Kind of a Wakefield type. One thing G. Olsen really taught us is that it’s as much in the head as in the arm, and, at first glance anyway, Bergesen’s head seems fine. I mean that 12-pitch K on Quentin in the first was not a rookie moment.
