Gonna be down at OPACY tonight

I see I’ll be catching a real marquee pitching matchup. Well, I never pass up a chance to see baseball for free, even from the upper box against Texas.

Besides, I have a feeling there might be a fight tonight, especially if it turns into a blowout.

Maybe Hendo can pick up some of the mojo that’s rubbed off on Eaton and Koji the past couple of nights. Go O’s!

So I’m having some beers and watching Draft action. Hobgoblin is an amazing brew.

and it’s not that he has NOBODY to throw to, but when defenses know all you’ve got is cooley is moss, it’s pretty easy to defend.

Rules question

In MFY v. PHN, Ortiz just flew out into what Gameday described as a “sacrifice double play.” This is the first time I have heard of such a thing. Its my general understanding that you don’t get an RBI even if you knock in a run but you hit into a double play. However, does Ortiz also get the benefit of not having an AB recorded for the “sacrifice” in this case? Does the question make sense?

by salvotion on Apr 25, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

Sac fly and Pedroia out on the throw.

I’d imagine Ortiz gets his RBI

should have just looked at the rules first. RBI doesn’t count only if its a forced or a “reverse-forced” (wtf is that?) double play.

Air out, throw behind DP.

by getxstoked on Apr 25, 2009 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope

A reverse forced double play is a regular double play where the outs are recorded out of order.

So grounder to the 1B, he steps on 1B and throws to 2B who tags the runner out (who is no longer being forced). That’s functionally equivalent to getting the force at 2B and then the force at 1B, so they are treated the same.

The Jones "scare" reminds me: watching the Yerks-Sawks this p.m., I realized I was rooting not for either team

but for individual players— to get injured. Nothing life-threatening, of course — I’m not ghoul — but something lingering and/or embarrassing: maybe a hammy (they can take months to heal) or 3rd-degree jock rash covering the entire lower torso, making throwing or stooping to field a ball a minor agony.

It was nice to see Lester get lit up, by the way. Dork.

there is no evidence to suggest that any hitter

does better in any situation. hitters hit about as well as they always do. Wigginton ain’t a great hitter. But he’s a good one, if a bit streaky.

The small anecdotal sample size to which you seem to be referring has no relevance.

I guess I like him because I saw what he could do in the minors for a couple of years

And when he was called up he hit .295 with 3 HRs in 38 games. This projected out to a pretty good season over 162 games. He out played Pie in ST but Pie had no options and won the job by default. Pie has sucked since given the LF job. I am not a PIE hater. I just want him to do well but I also want to put the best team on the field. Sorry if I come across to biased.
