Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Though I generally defend the umpires, because they have no ax to grind and the players generally do, it's disappointing that Hernandez hid behind a closed door after making a call that affected the outcome of the game.

If he were following normal MLB protocol, he would have given the media an explanation of his ruling. The fact that he did not want to do so leaves room to wonder how confident he was in the correctness of his call.

Jamie Walker's take
I don’t know if he had money betting on the game or what, but it’s a horse [bleep] call.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Ha,...I just heard it on the radio

You need to add a few more bleeps. I hope he is helping Koji with those words…

Rick Maese's family-friendly translation

From the Sun’s Toy Department blog (which is really pretty good, and I’m a DC guy):

“No way in (heck) did I balk on that pitch,‘’ he said. "That was a (woefully misguided and disagreeable) call. I don’t know if the guy has a problem with me or what, but it was a (fundamentally flawed) call…I don’t know if he had money betting on the game, but that was (un unpleasant and unfortunate) call."

LOL!

+5 for RIck, that’s hysterical

It's 4 in the morning. Too much to drink. All the girls look hot. So, the Nationals are Jennifer Lopez to me. —Julian Tavarez

And it might be the last thing he wrote for The Sun.

Sure that K V V didn’t write it?

Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.

You just never know

I love Jamie Walker for saying that. If he gets fined(i’m sure he will) maybe all the fans can all give a buck to help pay it. As a fan, you sometimes wonder what the umps motives are, and how Hernandez hid after the game really makes you wonder. My personal opinion is no way its a balk., so kudos to walker for saying what he felt.

I love Jamie Walker for saying it too

But, um…the fans paying a millionaire’s fine for him? No thanks.

Did you hear

That after Elijah Dukes got fined by the Nationals for being late to batting practice because he was too busy being in a parade for little leaguers, the little leaguers raised $500 to pay his fine for him? I thought that was cute.

I thought that was dumb

Considering that they already paid him $500 for the appearance. They should have offered to take him out for ice cream, if he wins that day.

I'm all for supporting the players however I can, but

Jamie Walkers annual salary: $4.5 million
Mine: Much, Much less

Walker has probably earned himself a suspension and a fine on top of getting pulled from the game a couple pitches after the call since he was clearly too amped to continue throwing. There are a LOT of bad calls in baseball. This one was particularly stupid but Walker is over-reacting and it is costing us.

Or Walker was yanked because the next batter was right-handed.

Why the hell would Chris Ray have even been up at that point if not for that.
