Shocker: A*Rod may have lied about degree of steroid use
Per the NY Times, reporting on a story in the Daily News:
That is because his arrival will follow the release of a book accusing him of steroids use perhaps as early as high school and during his time with the Yankees, according to an article Thursday in The Daily News.
Asked to respond to the latest allegations, Rodriguez said: “I’m not going there. I’m just so excited about being back on the field playing baseball and hopefully coming back and helping my team win some more games.”
The book, by Sports Illustrated’s Selena Roberts, is now scheduled for release on May 4. From the account in The Daily News, it will not hold welcome news for the Yankees. The newspaper reported that it contains unidentified teammates saying they believed Rodriguez was using performance-enhancing drugs as a member of the Yankees.
Roberts first reported in February about Rodriguez’s positive test for steroids in 2003, prompting him to confess to using them from 2000 to 2003 while he played for Texas.
After his outing on Thursday Rodriguez was asked several times about the new allegations, and when asked if he had been truthful in his news conference talking about his steroid use, he ended the interview and walked away.
and from the Daily News article:
Roberts dishes up a highly unflattering portrait of A-Rod as a needy me-firster who had to have his ego constantly stroked.
In one shocking disclosure, the book accuses A-Rod of "pitch tipping" when he was with the Rangers - letting a friendly opponent at the plate know which pitch was coming in lopsided games.
Rodriguez expected players he helped would do the same for him when he was having an off night and needed to get his batting average up and it wouldn't affect the outcome of the game.
Gee, it's so hard to believe this. I mean, A*Rod seemed so sincere and humble in his apology. I guess up is really down now, huh?

Not surprising
It was pretty obvious that he was full of shit when he came out with his confession, which went a little something like this:
“I only used steroids AFTER I signed a huge contract with the Rangers because of the enormous pressure I put on my self to live up to the contract and I stopped as soon as I put the sacred pinstripes on.”
Right, Alex.
I don’t believe a single word the guy says.

I have never disliked any athlete as much as I’ve grown to dislike Alex Rodriguez in the last four months. He’s unreal. There is literally nothing about him that as a fan I enjoy anymore. I have no desire to see him play, good or not.
Put anyone under that much scrutiny and most people will come off looking unlikeable.

Well, my wife told me you look like a dork." Boo Teixeira guys.
Maybe...
…but it would help if he weren’t a cheating, roid-usin’ philanderer who kisses himself in the mirror.
He’s a dick.
From the Land of Pleasant Living...
And let me just say that I don’t particularly like A-Rod. I wouldn’t say he’s a dick, he’s just super insecure and has no mind of his own (and as a result he does weird ass things like those Details photos). These aren’t laudable qualities but whatever. I’m mostly indifferent towards A-Rod.

Nope. It goes with the territory
Plenty of people have signed multi-million $$ deals with the Yanks and have gone on to handle the NY and national press with more class. He was naive if he thought the press wouldn’t relentlessly look for and then find out what he did. His responses since then have been douche-y.
This a witch hunt though. Plenty of people have signed big contract with the Yanks and come out looking OK by the press But A-Rod’s scrutiny has reached a new level. Acutually, as mentioned by pipkin above, Craig Calcaterra sums it up nicely. Roberts is out to villianize A-Rod.

he does really great work. I recommend everyone read him.
Absolutely
Thats as despicable as it can get in sports.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

was suspected by Yankee teammates of using steroids in 2005,
I’m guessing this is why he gave such a bizarre reaction when saying he appreciated the support of his teammates during his news conference. At that point, he probably already knew Roberts had dug up that dirt, he probably knows which teammates sold him out, and he was understandably pissed.
Apparently, A-Rod only tips 15% when he goes to Hooters. BASTARD!

Alex Rodriguez spits on children and nuns.
Also, he throws water balloons at newborn puppies.

No winners here
Rodriguez’s press conference was a joke. I sure came away feeling he was being less than truthful, simply based on comparing that press conference to what he said to Gammons the week prior. At the same time, if most major leaguers were using, it’s difficult to really denigrate his domination of that era. It just kind of sucks for those who didn’t use. Will I ever really believe that Maris has the single season home run title? In my mind 755, 714 and 61 mean something. The numbers of Bonds don’t really count to me and I guess neither will Rodriguez’s.
But Selena Roberts has books to sell and it’s hard to believe that this book won’t be light on facts and heavy on hearsay…maybe she’s reporting what others say when the others might have their own motives.
At the end of the day, AROD hasn’t failed a drug test since he became a Yankee. Of course, he was prolly tipped off about the tests, but nonetheless evidence is important.
Librarians are hiding something
so far,
pretty much everything roberts has written has been borne out, and everything rodriguez has said has been deceptive or an outright lie.
it will be interesting to see if suddenly the trend reverses.

roberts being right...
…that is true that she has not been proven wrong yet, but when you attribute things to “anonymous sources” or “people close to the clubhouse” or other literary devices, it makes for nice copy and presumably pushes paper, but potentially overreaching can come back to haunt her as well. The evidence is nice, but speculation doesn’t mean much.

Also worth mentioning
She was one of the angry villagers leading the charge against the Duke lacrosse kids. When the case was dropped, she offered no retraction. So journalistic integrity ain’t exactly her thang.

I love the fact that
Here in NY all the squawk radio hosts tried to make a big deal over it & the vast majoity of the callers either didn’t care or ripped Roberts to shreds.
You can't fix stupid. Stupid is forever.
A-Rod might be a jerk.
But then, so is Selena Roberts. They can be jerks together, and I think I’ll just enjoy beisbol.
Now then, Ray for Closer!

I am sorry for exactly one thing-- wanting A*Clod to break Barry's record, which I did before...all this crap. Now I don't.

Isn't this a guy that looked up to Cal Ripken?
Good job taking after your hero.

I don't care about anything A-Rod related
I DO NOT care anymore! and Ms. Roberts I know everyone likes to make a buck and what you wrote may have been true or even half truths but dirt digging writers are just as bad for the game as the players that did the dirt!
