Full Boxscore

The O's put THE HURT down on Phil Hughes last night, drilling him for eight earned runs in 1.2 innings and the offense rolled for 12 runs on 16 hits in total, beating the Yankees 12-5 on the strength of an eight-run second inning.

Adam Eaton (2-3) got the win, not that he really earned it with his line: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, K. He's now walked 11 in his last 16 innings, after allowing just four free passes in his first 15.1 innings. His ERA stayed steady at a brutal 7.18.

The Shutdown Three (oh, I'm going there) did their jobs: Baez allowed one earned in 2.1 IP, but Walker and Johnson finished the Yankees off after that.

I'd get into the offensive stats, but here's the MBP poll to cover that side. I will say this: ZAUN is now on an absolute tear. He's 6-for-7 this series and in May is 11-for-23, good for a .478/.520/.696 line. He's a beast.

Poll
Most Birdland Player (MBP) for today's game was:
Adam Jones (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R)

Nick Markakis (3-for-5, HR, RBI, 2 R)
15 votes
Aubrey Huff (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI)
11 votes
Luke Scott (3-for-5, 3 R)
11 votes
Lou Montanez (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R)
16 votes
ZAUN (3-for-4, 2B, RBI, R)

Holy crap! I gotta go to more Rachmaninoff concerts!! If they can make Adam Eaton our Stopper...

My brother-in-law, a Yerkees fan, claims he wasn’t following the game from his (expensive) seat, but I could tell from back in the cheapies that something was going Very Right, what with his regular head-rolling motions and then flailing arm gestures…

For those interested, Rachmaninoff won, the 2nd Symphony beating both the Glinka and the piece by some non-Russian guy— oh yeah, Mozart— by a fur piece. And the Rochester Philharmonic is a pretty kick-ass group, I gotta say. I think Russians would actually go for their Glinka. [Note to 26: the concert master was a…Y-chromosome-challenged individual! First time I’d seen that. Do they call such a concert mistress?]

Anyway, I voted for the Dr. purely on the numbers. This afternoon we have KOJI, i.e. a legitimate chance to win. Now that would make a fabulous Mother’s Day!

Go O’s!

Note to Z: There's competition for Most Pathetic Advertising on CC...

Are you single? My name is Markus Nolastname and I created Plentyoffish. And yes, many people have already commented that my stupid site name turns them plenty off-ish, not to mention the line “we generate about 800,000 relationships a year”— and let me assure you, our relationship generator back in the lab is operated only under the most hygenic conditions.

Oh, and the rumor that our customers are largely douchebags who come directly from BRASH.COM is false. We welcome douchebags from just about anywhere. So shut up and line up. And best of all, exposure to our advertising is free!

Titov

RPO is a kick-ass group. And Rach’s 2nd symphony, 3rd movement, some of the most gorgeous music ever written. I am starting to work on his 1st piano concerto this summer. Obviously not as well known as his 2nd and 3rd, but check it out, 1st movement cadenza kicks a$$, and his 2nd movement is once again some of the most sublime music I have ever heard, imo. Rachmaninoff is the man.

Does anyone know how far Jones' HR traveled?

Does anyone out there ever hear how far that Adam Jones HR in last night game went. It landed in the bullpen but I dont recall if they said exactly how far it traveled. That was a nice hit. I think it could be realistic for him to hit 30 homeruns this year. Not a bad accquistion for us after all!!!

Yeah

I was on the fence with him for awhile

"In a couple of weeks or a month, I'll be excited about this team," Dawkins said. "I've got to get used to saying that -- I'm a Bronco." Then he paused. "I'll tell you one thing -- I'll always be an Eagle."

Voted for Adam Jones, son! based on the numbers

but seeing as how most everyone got in on the offensive side, melmo’s catch deserves an honorable mention, for being awesome.

Good morning all

I’m in Philly right now. Went to see the Phillies-Braves game yesterday. I was hoping for a Phillies win but oh well. At least I got to see our old friend Eric O’Flaherty pitching for the Braves. Sadly he didn’t perform like the EOF we all know and love. Citizens Bank Park is beautiful, although we thought the jumbo tron was in an odd position.

After the game we walked from our hotel to this little bar that we were assured would have the Orioles game available. I wasn’t really all that interested since Adam Eaton was pitching, but Julia (Yankees fan) was. So we’re about halfway there and I get a text from a friend at the game “O’s kicking ass. 7-0 in the 2nd.” Suddenly I was like, “Yeah let’s go watch the game!” and Julia was all “I mean, we don’t have to.” Hee! When we got there it was 8-0 so missed most of the fun, but still got the pleasure of watching the Yankees lose in the presence of a Yankees fan.

Vote Zaun* to the All-Star game

tough pick today

I went ZAUN for coming out of his slump like a mofo and for being ZAUN, but I almost voted Lou for having a hit that wasnt a single. Then I remembered that throw from left…

AJ, Nick, Luke, I still love you. It was just ZAUN’s moment to shine.

I almost voted for Huff

Because I feel like that homer was the shot that really broke the yanks’ backs. But I had to go with my man AJ.

I did

So don’t feel bad. That was the hard driven nail in the coffin.

Also, wasn’t Nick robbed of RBI by Luke running like an old man when Swisher threw to the fans above the dugout?

(I only saw the 2nd inning so I’m sure I missed a lot)

Admit it

At 8-0 and Eaton on the mound, there was just a little doubt. My daughter asked me if the “Orioles will win now” and all I could say was “they should”.

Jones and Markakis battling to outdo each other is a blast.

I was sitting in the stands surrounded by Yankee fans...

and I was nervous about it. I wanted to get up and dance around a little bit but I knew the second I did the wheels would come off the bus. When they hit the back-to-back jacks this sweet little kid sitting in front of me turned around and mouthed the words “Uh Oh”. I’m sitting there thinking kid you just read my mind.

But alls well that ends well and when JJ came in I finally felt I could relax a little bit.

Also, the Jones, Markakis battle is most definitely BIRDLAND. I heard someone on the radio the other day saying that they could see these two going at it for MVPs in the next few years……….man I could live with that.

"Daddy, is Hevan like BIRDLAND?"
"No son, Hevan is BIRDLAND."

Back to early season form

With an offense that can be murder on anybody but the very top pitchers—and Andy Pettite—and a steadily improving bullpen, it comes down to starting pitching. Bergesen helps, but it ain’t enough. BTW, I really think DD should have let Eaton finish 6, at least, take his lumps and give the pen a rest, but I understand him not wanting to get blamed for blowing that big a lead when the wheels were obviously coming off the bus.
I do have a good feeling about today, though. I think Joba will lose a little velocity, which should make him perfectly hitable, and Koji is like Guts last year—give him a little run support and we’re good.

BTW, nice to have a tough choice for MBP

I went for AJ, but most of the other choices would have been just fine in any other game.

AT THE GAME

I know I am late but I just joined site.

Gotta say, I was at this game, sitting right in line with third base in the box seats, surrounded by Yankee fans. They were all chanting and commenting, like they always do, and just being tipical Yankee fans. But, by the end of the 2nd inning, things changed. There is nothing nicer than 25000 Yankee fans being brought to silence. (for a little while at least,) Loved this game, best i have been too except to opening day.
