Cal: A-Rod Will Answer to ME.
Not surprising, seeing how much Cal does to promote the game that A-Rod seems to have such little respect for.

He wants to know why he did roids? Just a guess, but I think it was to get stronger, hit more home runs, make more money, and of course keep up with just about everyone else in baseball since they were roiding too. Cal knows why he did it, he knows PED’s have been rampant in MLB forever, he saw all this firsthand. This is just sanctimonious grandstanding
That's a mischaracterization, to say the least.
Despite MFYFanboys’ velvet paintings of Ripken handing a baseball to Jeter under the title, “Passing the Torch”, A-Rod was the heir apparent to the SS crown. Ripken paved the way for a guy Rodriguez’ size to play in that position.
Cal spends just about every waking minute of his life promoting the game to be played the right way. A-Rod has all the God-given talent in the world & doesn’t seem to appreciate either the game or his own skills. I don’t think a little incredulity from the Iron Man is sanctimonious at all. I think it’s actually a more credible critical voice than the paying customers who fund the homerun derby this game has become…

This is true and everything, but Jeter is 6’3" and went down that same paved road.
But still — if anyone thinks Game Savior Cal never knew first hand that there were guys juicing while he played, and on his teams, I’ve got a bridge in my bathroom to sell them. He may well have very pure intentions here, but it also sort of sounds like, “I, CAL RIPKEN, SAVIOR OF BASEBALL AFTER THE GREAT STRIKE OF ’94, WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS AND REPORT MY FINDINGS TO YOU ALL!”
I’m not hatin’, I’m just not that protective of Cal Ripken’s image.
At the same time I think it’d be sort of fuckin’ awesome if Cal, Brooks and Pretty Boy Palmer went around beating the crap out of cheaters and other such vagrants in the game like Fred Williamson, Jim Brown and Pam Grier in Original Gangstas.

Matchups
Brown vs Ripken would be the main event, obviously. Jim Brown in his prime was an effing beast! But then again, we heard the stories from Boomer Wells about how Cal used to dominate in the locker room against any who dared to step to him!
Pam Grier would stomp a mud-hole Palmer…
Brooks would find a diplomatic approach and he and Fred Williamson would end up having a few drinks together and calling it even…

Disturbing
to read the mouth breathers on other boards such as espn or cbssporstline. How there could ever be an inkling of malice towards Cal makes me want to withdraw from society. Of course I worried about Cal when roids were continually exposed, but only because I knew, deep down, that if he were implicated in some way I might just give up on baseball.
I will never question the Iron Man because I know that Cal’s Dad, dead or alive, would have kicked his ass if he was roiding.
If anyone has the credentials to
speak out against the whole roid thing, it has to be Cal. I guess my only issue here is that if he is going to confront Rodriguez, he may as well take the time to call out jerkoffs like Rafael Palmiero. Overall, I do like the idea of belittling and harassing cheaters though…

I think it's great
player’s aren’t policing themselves, so let former players do it. it’s alot harder to lie to the face of a guy that played the game while you did and knows the guys who injected you. cal has all the credibility in the world. this isnt some guy naming names to sell a few books, he just genuinely cares about the game. bravo, mr ripken. its time someone did something to protect the game that did so much for them.
