Huff to the Mets?
Mets 1Bman Carlos Delgado is out for at least 2 months and according to the yammerings on WFAN they don't seem to think they have an adequate stopgap within the organization.
Now the 1st choice is apparently Nick Johnson, and outstanding fielder & the price is right. But he does have a history of injuries & doesn't have the same presence in the lineup that Huff would give.
Doubtful they'd part with top OF prospect Victor Martinez, but pitching help could be available. So if the Mets start asking questions on Huff's availability, what should MacPhail's answer be?

Yeah, we may as well
get something for the man-horse. No outfielders though, pitching and infielders would be just fine.

Sounds like a plan
A decent 2B or SS prospect and maybe, just maybe, throw in an at least so-so reliever? Do the deal, and the O’s could even cover some of the cash if the prospects are decent..

Talk about a guy
who was both great on the mike and in the ring. Dibiase was the complete package. Everyone talks about Curt Hennig being underrated so much that he’s lost that tag. For me, Dibiase was just real underrated.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

this is going around
the NY?NJ area. seems to be everyone’s top choice (especially on espn radio), and thats including over Johnson. I just don’t know what we’d ask for in return. The Met’s system isn’t exactly great, and everytihing at the ML level is either great or crap, so there’s no one they’d part with or we’d want there. Maybe some relievers? Really don’t know.

1) Wilmer Flores, SS-3B, Grade B+: I might take some flack for this, but in this case I think his upside is higher than F-Mart. If I could have just one of them, I’d pick Flores.
This guy would be nice. Write up from Sickels.

5) Reese Havens, SS, Grade B: Assuming he’s healthy, I think he’s going to be a strong across-the-board player with a high OBP.
Havens is the Met’s first round pick from last year. College guy, but he’s blocked by Reyes. I doubt either him or Flores would be available for Huff though.

Win-win situation for us if Snyder continues to hit
Huff should be shopped, and if the offer is right, promptly dealt for prospects, irrespective of whether they’re ML ready like AM demanded for Sherrill last year.
If the other teams try to low-ball us, then we get picks if Aubrey continues to slug.
All this is contingent on Brandon continuing to impress, though.

They're similar in terms of age
But Snyder has been in the minors for five seasons while Matt was in his first year ever.
Whereas Brandon, a first baseman, pretty much has to hit to be noticed, Wieters, a switch-hitting catcher with plus defensive skills, does not have pressure put upon him to smack the ball around.

yeah, but...
it’s not like wieters jumped up from high school to frederick. i mean, 3 years of div 1 ball at one of the best programs in the country is nothing to sneeze at. not to mention that wieters season last year was not considered great for a catcher, but one of the greatest offensive seasons in minor league history (so said baseball prospectus).

But the “wow” factor with Wieters stemmed from the fact that he was performing so well without ever seeing professional pitchers before.

Type A or B free agent
Remember that if Huff doesn’t get injured he should be a type B or possibly type A free agent. So the orioles should be looking for at least 2 quality players or a package of several lower sleeper prospects

It depends on how he performs this year
free agent types depend on the past two years if I remember correctly. Since he performed well enough to earn a silver slugger award last year I’m pretty sure that year will be counted as a type A. It’ll depend on how well he performs this year.
Knowing this we should negotiate like he will be a type A free agent and should at least ask for two solid prospects

Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
All he would cost us is cash. He’s not blocking anyone yet, and he’s only 32, and he’s still producing. I wouldn’t rule out a 2-3 year deal. Even with the new B-Rob and Markakis’ deals, the O’s payroll is pretty affordable for PGA.

Huff is making $8M this year
A raise through arbitration could equal $10-$11M contract. Given what Burrell signed for, that’s high for a DH. Dunn and Abreu aren’t quite comparable since they play the field.

Package possibilities
I’d ask for 1 sleeper pitcher along with maybe a bullpen prospect and ask for some type of infielder prospects. I figure Elvin Ramirez as a sleeper pitcher prospect. Maybe add one more or a bullpen guy from either single or double-A. We do need some infield depth as we lose our third basemen and Huff this year I believe
Elvin Ramirez, RHP, New York Mets
A Dominican signed by the Mets in 2004, Ramirez posted a 3.67 ERA with a 62/36 K/BB in 81 innings last year in the Sally League, not overly impressive. But he gets tons of grounders with his 90-94 MPH sinking fastball, flashes a good curveball and changeup, and has made progress with his command. He’s had durability problems and command remains an issue, but he should be watched for signs of further development.

Dont trade Huff to Mets. If Huff needs to be Traded trade him to the Brewers for a player to be named later. And that player is pitcher Jeff Suppan. So what the Brewers could get is another chance to win the Penneat. But Next year we have 2 good starting pitchers Guthrie and Jeff Suppan.

Giants and Braves
Both the Giants and Braves are lacking offensive production. The Giants are getting little to nothing from first and the Braves outfield has been terrible.
Trade ideas: Huff to the Giants, Scott to the Braves
Prospects in return: one or two of Angel Villalona (1B), Conor Gillaspie (3B), Nick Noonan (2B), or Ehire Adrianza (SS) from the Giants and Freddie Freeman (1B) or Brandon Hicks (SS, 3B) of the Braves.
Bumgarner is going nowhere. He’s the left-handed Lincecum. They’re not going to trade him. If Kotchman starts hitting, Freeman becomes expendable. Anyway, I support both these trades. If they happen Wiggy takes over at 1B to be backed up by Salazar, Montanez moves to full-time DH, and the forth outfielder becomes Pie permanently.
The most important thing about both trades is getting infielders (corner and middle) prospects in return. Waring and Turner have turned out great but neither are ready to contribute to a major league roster, and, outside of Blake Davis, there need to be other options at short for next (or in two) year (s) and beyond.
