Steroids = great hitting?

In my previous post I talked about the human side of Felix Pie, which remains largely unreported by anyone.   In this post I'd like to address how we've become fans of steroids!    Yes that's right.   We've all loved to hate the great hitting of Manny Ramirez and his baggy uniform which we now know was hiding his dirty little secret?

Do you still want to see Manny play?  Or how about A-Rod?   I wouldn't walk across the street to see either of them play because I know they can't hit without their pharmaceutical aids!   I'd rather watch AAA baseball where guys like Bobby Scales and Jake Fox play a pure form of baseball that's sadly disappearing.

Our love of steroid inspired hitters like Manny has got to stop!    Instead we have to re-train ourselves to appreciate the work ethic of players like Felix Pie, Bobby Scales and others like them.   Did you ever consider that it might be their refusal to use pharmaceutical aids that has kept them in the minor leagues?

How can you feel the same watching a baseball game knowing that your best hitters can't really hit?   Even though I've been a Cubs fan, I've still secretly enjoyed watching Mannywood, haven't you?   That's in the past now.

FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

Orioles fan do....

Matt Wieters
Nick Markakis
Adam Jones
thats just off the top of my head real quick, All great players who can HIT, the latter two at a MAJOR LEAUGE level and as soon a the great one gets called up he’ll also show he can hit at a ML level unlike Pie. Good work ethic is fine and being a stand up guy also great but its pro baseball you have to be able to play at a certin level not just be a good guy with a great work ethic. example Cal Ripken Jr. Great guy and most important great ball player

Everyone in Baltimore hated Huff after 2007 because he stunk it up at the plate and called Baltimore a horseshit town. But you know what? Now everyone loves Huff and it’s barely been 18 months.

Why? Because Huff played his ass off and produced at the major league level. He didn’t change his attitude, he didn’t do charity work for orphanages – he hit his was into the hearts and minds of Orioles fans.

It sounds like Pie is a better humanitarian than Huff, but if he wants to be respected as a MAJOR LEAGUER, he has to produce.

You seem like a person with all the best intentions. I can see where you’re coming from, but the truth is guys like Manny and A-Rod can hit with or without the roids. Guys like Jay Gibbons go from lifetime AAA’ers to marginal major leaguers using the juice. Guys like Barry go from potential hall of famer to one of the best players ever.

As far as work ethic and personality, that kind of thing is far more visible at the minor league level, mainly because its built that way. We don’t all know Felix as a person because he plays in Camden Yards now, not in Iowa. Regardless, intention and work ethic can only get you so far, no matter what line of work you are in. If I get hit by a car, I could care less how good of a person the doctor is and how hard he worked to get to that point. Just make sure he can save my life. It’s the same in baseball. Its not necassarily fair, but such is life.

In any event, real fans DO appreciate the guys that play the game the right way more. Thats why we’ve taken to Adam Jones so quickly. The guy busts his butt and doesn’t act like he’s above the common guy. If Pie could do what Adam does, he’d probably have the same following. If he reaches that level, i’m sure we’ll take to him that same way.

steroids?

STeroids are the ‘elephant in the room’ that some of you are unwilling to look at. You don’t want to admit that all these guys you love to watch are pharmaceutically enhanced! And it looks like the NBA has a problem with steroids too! Take a look at LeBron James and tell me he’s not juicing up? Or Brad Miller? This has ruined sports on so many levels.

I don't know who's taken what

The “work ethic” guys may be taking steroids, HGH, or who knows what else.

What percentage of baseball fans really feel that steroids have tainted the game? Those people ought to vote with their wallets and just stop going to games and buying merchandise. If someone feels the drugs have ruined a sport, the only recourse they have, as a consumer, is to withhold their money.

It sure seems to me that all the hand-wringing over drugs ruining sports is a bunch of baloney. Revenues have generally been doing nothing but climb until this recession. The complaining ought to stop focusing on whether drugs have tainted a sport, and ask why the vast majority of people aren’t really concerned.
