Steroids = great hitting?
In my previous post I talked about the human side of Felix Pie, which remains largely unreported by anyone. In this post I'd like to address how we've become fans of steroids! Yes that's right. We've all loved to hate the great hitting of Manny Ramirez and his baggy uniform which we now know was hiding his dirty little secret?
Do you still want to see Manny play? Or how about A-Rod? I wouldn't walk across the street to see either of them play because I know they can't hit without their pharmaceutical aids! I'd rather watch AAA baseball where guys like Bobby Scales and Jake Fox play a pure form of baseball that's sadly disappearing.
Our love of steroid inspired hitters like Manny has got to stop! Instead we have to re-train ourselves to appreciate the work ethic of players like Felix Pie, Bobby Scales and others like them. Did you ever consider that it might be their refusal to use pharmaceutical aids that has kept them in the minor leagues?
How can you feel the same watching a baseball game knowing that your best hitters can't really hit? Even though I've been a Cubs fan, I've still secretly enjoyed watching Mannywood, haven't you? That's in the past now.

I’d rather admire the work ethic of guys who are actually good, than guys like Pie and Scales.

Orioles fan do....
Matt Wieters
Nick Markakis
Adam Jones
thats just off the top of my head real quick, All great players who can HIT, the latter two at a MAJOR LEAUGE level and as soon a the great one gets called up he’ll also show he can hit at a ML level unlike Pie. Good work ethic is fine and being a stand up guy also great but its pro baseball you have to be able to play at a certin level not just be a good guy with a great work ethic. example Cal Ripken Jr. Great guy and most important great ball player
"We're so bad right now that for us back-to-back home runs means one today and another one tomorrow." ~ Earl Weaver
as would I
ALL STAR
.264/.372/.431 23HR 87 runs 81 RBIs .971 fielding %
I wouldn’t say one bad thing about that….off year for Cal but AWESOME year for felix
"We're so bad right now that for us back-to-back home runs means one today and another one tomorrow." ~ Earl Weaver
not to mention
Cal had 6 not too shabby years before that as well. he was rookie of the year. dont think Pie was.

Everyone in Baltimore hated Huff after 2007 because he stunk it up at the plate and called Baltimore a horseshit town. But you know what? Now everyone loves Huff and it’s barely been 18 months.
Why? Because Huff played his ass off and produced at the major league level. He didn’t change his attitude, he didn’t do charity work for orphanages – he hit his was into the hearts and minds of Orioles fans.
It sounds like Pie is a better humanitarian than Huff, but if he wants to be respected as a MAJOR LEAGUER, he has to produce.

You'll love him too!
And at the end of this season, you’ll love Felix too! And I won’t even say I told you so because I was brought up to be polite!
I hope you're right
Hell, a few months ago I bet $10,000 that Pie would finish the season with an OBP above .315, so I hope Pie helps me out. But, you know, I’m not really holding my breath.
Polite folks don't tell strangers they've never met that they're heartless.
In my experience, that is.

You seem like a person with all the best intentions. I can see where you’re coming from, but the truth is guys like Manny and A-Rod can hit with or without the roids. Guys like Jay Gibbons go from lifetime AAA’ers to marginal major leaguers using the juice. Guys like Barry go from potential hall of famer to one of the best players ever.
As far as work ethic and personality, that kind of thing is far more visible at the minor league level, mainly because its built that way. We don’t all know Felix as a person because he plays in Camden Yards now, not in Iowa. Regardless, intention and work ethic can only get you so far, no matter what line of work you are in. If I get hit by a car, I could care less how good of a person the doctor is and how hard he worked to get to that point. Just make sure he can save my life. It’s the same in baseball. Its not necassarily fair, but such is life.
In any event, real fans DO appreciate the guys that play the game the right way more. Thats why we’ve taken to Adam Jones so quickly. The guy busts his butt and doesn’t act like he’s above the common guy. If Pie could do what Adam does, he’d probably have the same following. If he reaches that level, i’m sure we’ll take to him that same way.

steroids?
STeroids are the ‘elephant in the room’ that some of you are unwilling to look at. You don’t want to admit that all these guys you love to watch are pharmaceutically enhanced! And it looks like the NBA has a problem with steroids too! Take a look at LeBron James and tell me he’s not juicing up? Or Brad Miller? This has ruined sports on so many levels.
accusations
Did you read anything dave said? Doesn’t look that way. Hey, tell me, how do you know that Pie hasn’t taken steroids? Is Pie older than he says he is? What sort of supplements does Pie take?
really?
It comes down to liking to watch Pie or liking to watch juiced players? I fall into that middle ground of not liking either. I like to watch un-juiced players who are better than Pie.
funny...
i like pie and juice. a delicious snack.

Personally, I follow the Davis Doctrine
“Just win, baby!”
As well as the Madden Corollary, “If he can play, good. If not, good-bye.”
And up until now I’ve always been indifferent to who wins the NL pennant. But now I want LA BECAUSE of Manny. Sticking it to self-righteous, judgemental, bitter sportswriters and PHN in one shot? Now that’s a 2-fer!
You can't fix stupid. Stupid is forever.
One problem...
I think Manny may have actually been batting for himself AND for Andre Ethier b/c Ethier is nowhere to be found since Manny went on vacation.

True enough
But they have the division by default. Who thinks SF is for real? Me neither.
And as for October, all the other NL teams (NY, Phi, Mil, StL, Chi, whoever) have their flaws as well.
You can't fix stupid. Stupid is forever.
I'm with you though...
I’d like to see LAD win that division. I’m a big Matt Kemp fan.

Steroids don't make a hitter
Ramirez, Rodriguez, Bonds…these guys could hit without steroids and be all stars. They’re that good to begin with. Steroids make them better? Maybe. That’s debatable.

Please
educate yourself on the Manny/steroid issue before you post. Manny had an elevated level of testosterone that wasn’t his…..hence the 50 game suspension! Where are all those people who swore up and down that Manny didn’t take steroids. Manny is fake all the way up to his fake dreadlocks! Anyone who thinks he can hit without the juice is delusional!
Why don't you help us educate ourselves
Care to post a few links? Specifically, I’d like you to substantiate where people “swore up and down” that Manny “didn’t take steroids”. I’m not saying it didn’t happen. I just want to know.
what the fuck am I saying
I don’t even care about Manny. How did we go from Felix Pie sucking to steroids? Why do I let myself be duped by trolls?

And this thread has reached its logical conclusion
Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.
I don't know who's taken what
The “work ethic” guys may be taking steroids, HGH, or who knows what else.
What percentage of baseball fans really feel that steroids have tainted the game? Those people ought to vote with their wallets and just stop going to games and buying merchandise. If someone feels the drugs have ruined a sport, the only recourse they have, as a consumer, is to withhold their money.
It sure seems to me that all the hand-wringing over drugs ruining sports is a bunch of baloney. Revenues have generally been doing nothing but climb until this recession. The complaining ought to stop focusing on whether drugs have tainted a sport, and ask why the vast majority of people aren’t really concerned.
Here's the real question...
How many fans of baseball are taking steroids?

I loves me some steroid-ball
It’s more interesting than the coke-ball of the 1980’s. Less illegal too.
If baseball players stopped used steroids (which they won’t) and baseball returned to another dead-ball era. I’m not paying attention.
NC BBQ
In North Carolina Eastern BQQ = North Carolina Western BBQ.
It’s just that nobody’s willing to admit it. Folks claim to have their faves, but secretly they’ll eat either. The difference is that they’ll also complain about it when ‘forced’ to partake in the other region’s offerings.
