Jay Gibbons Update! (attn: NY CC'ers)
I won 5 tickets to a Newark (NJ) Bears game for today and went to look up their roster. I found that their website isnt functional at all, but through some investigative reporting (ie google) realized that they have such former O's greats as Ryan Bukvich, Alberto Castillo, and of course Jay Gibbons. Also, I read that they signed Armando Benitez, though I cant find any statistical info for him so I can not confirm or deny this.
Any NYC CCers who want to go see horseface killah can just hop a train to newark penn station. its pretty much walking distance from there. Tonight they play Bridgeport, who have Ed Rodgers and Esteban Yan. This is gonna be exciting!!!

You should take a baseball
to the game and get every former Oriole great to sign it. Then we can have an auction here at CC to raise money for Shitty Player awareness and research!
Mood about O's rotation: Depressed : (
You should take a BAT
and put everyone of those clowns out of their misery. The pain and suffering Armando caused me would be justification for any violence.

I Love the Bears...
Only downfall is the city, but the stadiums great, its nice to see all the ex orioles around there to
I say this as a 1 time visitor to Newark...
it didn’t seem THAT bad. Now, granted, I stayed in the Hilton by the NJ Penn Station, by the Pru Center (took my daughter to see Metallica for her 12th birthday). The ability to use an indoor walkway to get to the train station and to the front of the Pru was pretty nice. And it wasn’t that bad a city to drive in, at least on a Saturday.
Now, granted, I just saw the Chamber of Commerce view of the city, but it was pretty convenient to take Penn to Penn Manhattan and get into NYC from Newark. Next time I want to go to NYC, I’ll probably stay in Newark and do the train again. It was too cheap and convenient not to. I mean, the Hilton attached to the train station was $109 a night in January. Try that in Manhattan.

did you drive up?
because if you did, you could go through SI and stay in Brooklyn. Saves you 30-40 minutes on the road, and much more interesting than newark.
It's 4 in the morning. Too much to drink. All the girls look hot. So, the Nationals are Jennifer Lopez to me. —Julian Tavarez
Yeah, but the show as in Newark.
and the whole Penn-to-Penn ride just made Newark look a lot more convenient. I mean, it was less than 25 minutes ride time from station to station, and it put me right in Penn Manhattan. You know the city better than I do, obviously, so I’ll defer to your judgment, but the thought of having to drive into NYC made Newark a pretty easy call. Also, the concert was at Pru Center in Newark, so Brooklyn wouldn’t have made sense from that standpoint. If it was at MSG or Nassau, that’s a different story, but the show was 2 blocks from where we stayed.

"show WAS in Newark"
Someday, I’ll learn to type.

The most important....
question is – How’d your daughter like Metallica?

LOVED THEM
and The Sword as well.
The second opening band, Machine Head? Awful. Just awful.

Machine Head being awful saddens me...
as “Davidian” is one of the best metal songs of the 90s.

Between songs, every other word out of the singer's mouth
was “fuck” and it just got boring. I like metal and I’m no prude, but I don’t need to be cursed at for 45 minutes straight. And quite honestly, their sound is more repetitive than most metal I’m used to, and that’s saying a lot. Their Iron Maiden cover was good, but the drummer tried too hard to impress. They just didn’t do anything for me.
The Sword totally rocked. Those guys are awesome.

I will bookmark this thread
because it will make me smile a little bit every time some asshole starts reciting the list of ex-O’s who have WS rings.

Rick Bauer pitches for the York Revolution this year. The Revs have previously also employed Ramon Nivar.
I’ve seen Keith Reed and Darnell McDonald in the Atlantic League over the past 2 years as well (I think both w/Newark — Newark and Long Island seem to get the most ex-MLB’ers)
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
Chris Hoiles
i believe is coaching the York Revolution again this season. Jeff Nettles (Bowie 2008 with 24 hrs) is playing for Somersett also in the same independent league. I am sure there are more. If you want to see these guys and players with Newark, Long Island, etc you can head down to Waldorf, MD to Brooks Robinson’s team the Maryland Bluecrabs. Awesome new stadium just off Rt. 301 with free parking. Give it a try. I got to meet Sparky Lyle (NY Yankees) and the Bluecrabs manager Butch Hobson (Red Sox) last season.
