Outfielder Lou Montanez underwent an MRI yesterday that revealed two torn ligaments in his right thumb, an injury he sustained on May 2 while making a diving catch in Toronto.
Montanez consulted with a hand specialist in Baltimore earlier today, and he's expected to undergo surgery to reattached the ligaments. He's available to pinch-hit, since he's already been playing through the pain. He pinch-ran for Melvin Mora last night.
...
The surgery likely would sideline Montanez for six-to-eight weeks. He'd need to go on an injury rehab assignment before being activated.
Roch: Montanez expected to undergo surgery
Guess this solves the extra outfielder problem.

not to be an arrogant orioles fan...
or a dick, for that matter, but that pretty much solves things, no?

Not exactly
Montanez was headed back to the minors anyways, so this really doesn’t change anything. It’s a slight blow to the depth, but Salazar is just as useful as Montanez if injuries hit.
I’d like to see Pie get regular at bats, which still can’t be done when Reimold and Scott are starting every day (as they should be).
I still think you need to cash in Scott for prospects if the opportunity arises.
That's an assumption about Lou
Probably the correct assumption, but who knows. I was a proponent of Pie getting more ABs and sending Reimold back down when Luke was ready, however I think the Reimold has forced the issue. He’s playing too well to get sent down. It sucks for Pie, but that’s baseball.

Yeah
I think it’s pretty clear that Reimold’s not going anywhere right now.
So the choice was between waiving and possibly losing Pie and optioning Lou, which isn’t a very difficult choice, IMO.
Of course, Lou’s injury makes it even easier.
though, w/ reimold...
i’d like to see that cat take a couple walks, y’know?
i kinda agree on scott.

things always seem to work themselves out huh?

With the way Reimolds playing right now
Once Scott comes back we have to trade him or Pie. We could get at least one 3 star prospect from the Braves for him, like Randall Delgado(SP with great upside) or Frederick Freeman(One of the best . Plus the Braves have no power, Scott would be a great addition, who most fans were asking for before he got hurt, which at least makes this option worth exploring
We couldn't get a bag of beans for Aubrey Huff last year
when he was the Silver Slugger for the AL at DH. I’m not holding my breath on acquiring any decent young SP with Luke Scott.
Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.
I think this is overstating the case
If somebody coughs up something quality for Luke, that’d be great. I genuinely like the guy and I like having him on the Os but if he can be turned over for prospects, it should be done. Pie is probably worthless in trade, unless we send him back to the Cubs as the PTBNL for himself.

Brandon Snyder drilled a grand slam to center field in Harrisburg
He got all of it and the Baysox held on to win 8-6. What is good to see is Snyders fielding improving each game. He is hitting around .360 with 8 hrs and 36 RBIs. All numbers rank in the top of the league. He is our future 1st baseman. We could get some pitching from the Mets if we trade Huff to them.
Bobby Livingston was not spectacular but won his 5th game to lead the Sox. He went 6 innings but struggled giving up 4 runs.
I hope Lou gets rehabed at Bowie. We would love to see him again. Also it is great to see another alumi (Reimold) begin what we hope is a long career in an Orioles uniform.
We should play our younger players. They are the future.
Nice!
Can’t wait to see him and the rest of Baysox on Monday. I need to get there early and get some E-league balls for sigs.
Has Brandon Erbe been around at all? I want to see him, Snyder, Patton, and of course Arrieta.
