Wieters to debut on Friday
Everyone can start wetting themselves now. I am super excited, but I want him to put up those big numbers in MLB before I anoint him king.
We have plenty of reasons to believe, but hopefully he'll give us one more reason to believe and forget about our awful starting rotation.
He's finally coming...multiple readers have emailed that Orioles president Andy MacPhail said on MASN that top prospect Matt Wieters will debut Friday in Baltimore against Dontrelle Willis and the Tigers. Wieters, 23, posted a .285/.367/.482 line in Triple A. He slugged .552 in May.

It’s a student night, so it should be a raucous crowd.

I’m going on Saturday. I’m hoping Matt decides to wait till then to hit the first of his 800 home runs.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

I'm pretty sure
that every one of Matt’s hits will be a home run, and every AB will amount in a hit. Sooooooo…

I dont think so. Wieters will understand how home runs kill rallies, and restrain himself appropriately.

I guess none too soon
The O’s announced their lowest attendance in OPACY’s 18 year history: 10,130. Crappy weather and apathy will do that. If the O’s keep bringing on the young hosses, that will change. Friday is another step. Schmuck called it the beginning. Personally, I view swapping Bedard for Jones and Tillman as the beginning, followed by extending Markakis. Wieters is hopefully the next big step forward to flush the miserable memories.

Actual Matt Wieters facts
Per Roch, he was notified prior to last night’s game that he was being promoted. He proceeded to celebrate with a 4-4, 4-RBI night.
On the night that Andy MacPhail announced Wieters’ impending promotion, the O’s came from behind with 3 HRs and every other team in the AL East lost.
As Casey Stengel would say, you can look it up.

Sweeping the Blue Jays was nice, but the really good news for Orioles fans is that super-phenom Matt Wieters has been promoted to the major leagues. As one Orioles blogger put it, “Everyone can start wetting themselves now.” Please don’t do that. As I wrote about before spring training, Wieters has been pegged as the future of the franchise since being taken with the fifth pick in the 2007 draft, but caution is probably in order. Here are some things Wieters won’t do this season that overly excited fans may be hoping for: hit 30 home runs, turn the Orioles into a playoff contender, or walk on water. Try not to be disappointed.

“Should we open the clubhouse at 11? Have brunch here tomorrow for everybody? Is it going to be like Duke madness out there, where people are going to be out with tents?” Trembley said. “I’m going to go out and buy pizzas for everybody, and we’re going to have a pajama party out there waiting for Wieters to come.”
