Nats DFA Daniel Cabrera
cabs says he will decline to accept a minor league assignment and become a free agent. good luck w/ that, buds. as frustrating as cabrera has/had been, i always feel sort of bad for the guy, for some reason. ah, well.
also, in case you missed my thrilling fanshot, the o's have also released chris vinyard. w/ apologies to jolie holland, i say adieu, false hope.

That's a shame
I mean, I know he sucks, but still.

He's making a $2.6MM salary this year
And he’ll keep getting paid that salary even if he doesn’t “work” for the rest of the year..

Good thing he’s refusing a minor league assignment, otherwise people might find out he’s not worth a crap down there either.

Next stop, York Revolution. Come on, Danny! Do it!
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

The guy made millions on his "potential"
He should be OK. The O’s never did him any justice by rushing him to the majors. I don’t think he’d ever have been much better, but he had to learn in the big leagues. I still like D-Cabs, but he’s now part of an Orioles era I hope is long gone by next year.

Newark Bears! Come on down D-Cabs! I’m gonna have the coolest O’s autograph collection EVAR!
(disclaimer: he isnt actually going to the Newark Bears. Yet.)

I’m lobbying for York a few posts up, but I bet if he goes Atlantic League it’s Newark or Long Island. Those guys get all the best MLB retreads.

Just wait for the Yankees to start struggling again.
At least he didn’t punch a judge… that we know of.

As bad as Cabrera was for the Nats...
Adam Eaton was even worse for the Orioles. Actually, a lot worse (8.56 ERA in 41 innings for Eaton versus 5.85 ERA over 40 innings for Cabrera).
Here’s hoping our young arms prevent us from seeing the likes of either Eaton or Cabrera again for a long, long time.

Did you see the quote from GM Mike Rizzo?

We know the feeling all too well, Mike.

So were we Mike
Check out these peripherals:
WHIP 2.075
H/9 10.8
HR/9 0.9
BB/9 7.9
K/9 3.6
I would like $2.6M now please. I’d walk less batters at least, but probably give up more HR.

Cabs may be hurt. His pitchfx data show that he’s losing velocity on his fastball. He’s down to 90.8 mph on his fastball this year. In 2007, his fastball registered at 95.2 mph.
