Who To Trade and Why
Mora - Not gonna happen, 100% no-trade cause, and he doesnt want to leave
Huff - A strong bat that would get back nice trade, in last year of contract and probally won't resign, and is not part of the long term plan.
Pie - Hasnt found a fit here and honestly wasnt given a fair shake( AJ and Nic where given a whole season to developed) maybe a new home will do him good. Only 23 and has big upside.
Sherrill - Trade him while his value is still high
Baez - Ditto
Ray - Ditto
I can see trading all 3, either have Johnson close or pick someone off the refuse bin. This year really doesnt matter, so why not try to get some good players for these 3, and honestly i wouldnt see all 3 being moved.
Scott - While I like him, I have always found him to be a poor RISP player, and his homers are always the solo kind. Another guy I just don't see as part of the youth movement
Wiggington - Can we get a bag of balls?
Andino - With Seasoning could he be the starting SS in 2011?
Walker - Veteran Left handed Relievers are like gold, not the player he was, but few teams are happy with what they have.

Not sure that Pie would bring anything back at all. That “big upside” has become a bigger longshot.
And Ray has to right himself before he’s worth much.
Baez is the guy that I really think has value.

What pie could be
He is 23, that is why he still has upside, he has the tools, he needs someone to be patient with him. Look how we were patient with Markakis, he was batting .200 for the first 4 months, and now look at the rewards.
If Ray can right himself he is a proven closer and their are a lot of teams that need a closer. His role as a set up man might be the problem.

Here's the thing to me.
We have no reason to be patient with Pie. We have a RF and a CF who aren’t going anywhere for YEARS, and Nolan looks like he could settle in nicely in LF, and has MiLB numbers that show he’s capable of it.
Pie might just have to accept life as a 4th OF if he stays here.
Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.
not to mention
you can always pick up a proven corner outfielder once you start contending
i think we should keep him as a fourth outfielder. Just because Baltimore isn’t the best place to give him the playing time to grow doesn’t mean he can’t be serviceable for us.

Speaking only for myself ...
… I’ve had my fill of guys who are “tools” players. More often than not, that is used as a synomen for good athlete. Guys that can run fast, jump high and strong enough to hit a baseball hard. Unfortunately for them, baseball is considerably more than speed and athletecism. Intelligence and coordination are as important, possibly more so.
I don’t care how fast Pie is in the outfield if he doesn’t know how to take good routes to balls or how to position himself depending on the batter and the game situation. Or how fast he is on the basepaths if he has poor baserunning skills. Sure, some of this can be addressed with experience and playing time. But if the guy can’t hit, why does he deserve to play? I have seen nothing to indicate Felix Pie can hit Major League pitching. Nolan Reimold is our new LF, hopefully for some time to come.
hakkaa päälle !
Not comparable
Markakis was a year younger, he had minor league options remaining. And after 4 months he wasn’t hitting 200, he was hitting 297 with a 362 OBP and a 764 OPS. Pie probably has more ML PA’s right now than Markakis did after 4 months and he is at 216/281/606. There is no comparison. Markakis may have started somewhat slow, but he was nowhere near Pie’s level of incompetance.
Fact is in the offseason, the best thing the Cubs could get for Pie was Garrett Olson. Right now I would guess his value is considerably lower than that.

Robbie Andino
Andino – With Seasoning could he be the starting SS in 2011?
I’d love to know the answer to this, because I’m certainly hoping for the best from him. He was supposed to be the guy for the Marlins before Hanily Ramirez put his stamp on the SS job there, but then again, Andino may be the Felix Pie of middle infielders.
I just don’t know enough about the guy, but I do know that I love a man who gets the best of Roy Halladay, if only for a day.
...Behold, a pale horse. The man that sat upon it was Wieters, and hell followed with him.

Huff
I remember reading somewhere, a year ago at least, that Huff was saying how disappointing it was to leave Tampa and then see them get good. And that he would hate for the same thing to happen to him in Baltimore. Obviously if we can get a good haul for him we should, but I think he likes this team and would re-sign with the O’s if he was offered a good deal.
Every young team needs some veterans, right?
Anyone else see him as a fit for this team beyond this season? Just curious.
by brooklynlovesorioles on May 28, 2009 5:30 PM EDT reply actions
ABSOLUTELY
Look, I ripped him as much as anyone before last offseason. I’m pretty sure I said at one point we should cut him.
And right now, I’d offer him 2 years, $20M in a heartbeat.
Matt Wieters took batting practice this morning. There were no survivors.
Yes
I don’t see the point in trading Huff. He’s not too old, not too expensive, his defense seems to be improving, and we don’t have anyone beating down the door at 1B.
Matt Wieters broke a bat last night. Nobody knows what happened to the ball.
Brandon Snyder is hitting .351
With 9 HR, 37 RBIs, and a 1.038 OPS at Bowie.
That sounds like knocking to me.
If he keeps it up at AAA
then it will be knocking.

We could always
re-sign Huff and move him back to DH if Snyder continues his ascension to the bigs like I believe he will.

Yes!!!
Even though I like BRob and Markakis as our team leaders I feel that Huff brings enthusiasm to this team. Remember the now famous Joba fist pumps that Yankee fans hated? I would probably give him a year or two extension so he can show the young birds how to play with attitude.

Huff
We should definitely get rid of Huff if we can get a nice l’il package for him. But we shouldn’t feel like we NEED to get rid of him. Not cause he’s so great, but because it doesn’t look like there is anyone better coming along.
Huff would be close to the top of the free agent 1b market, and the only thing we have in our system is Brandon Snyder. As well as he’s been hitting this year, I don’t think he even peaks out at an Aubrey Huff level.
Let's see
Luuke – if Mora would get on base every once in a while, Luke might get more RBIs. Also, he just yesterday his a 2 run bomb off of Halliday. Although, I think Pie might be the 4th OF with his CF abilities. If only he would clear waivers, teach him how to hit in the international league.
Baez is worth keeping but I could see getting something worthwhile in return. Likewise with Sherril, although he’s no elite closer, his value would be as a setup/LOOGY.
I would pay someone to take Walker. Double if you’re in the AL east.
As nuts as Wiggity makes me, he’s starting to come around, and is very versatile in the infield. He had a really good game playing 1B last week. We don’t have anyone that could replace him.
As always, money talks, and I’d be willing to give up players if the talent coming back was good.
Don’t forget about Turnip and Warner, the guys we got in the Ramon trade.

Braves fan here...
As you guys know if you follow the NL at all, our outfield is awful. Because this is a ‘trade’ thread I thought it would be a good place to discuss a Braves-O’s trade.
The guy I have been thinking about for a while is Luke Scott. His OPS is about 200 points higher than any of our corner OFers and has more HRs than our entire outfield. The Braves have an excess of starters and starter prospects and even though the O’s have a good batch coming up themselves, I was wondering if they would be in the market for some more.
Where would you value Scott at in terms of prospects to be compensated with?
I am of the opinion that
Luke Scott is nearly at his peak, but has not reached it yet. If he plays a FULL season free of interruptions I think you could reasonably expect .275, 25 HR, 85 RBI.
That said, what would that be worth to your organization? Unfortunately I don’t really follow other team’s farm systems (basically because I don’t care about other teams) so I don’t know anything about who you would have to offer.
P.S.-What the hell happened to Jeff Franceour? I thought he would be comparable to Nick Markakis for a long time…but this does not appear to be the case.

sickuvitall you sould edit your mood about O's rotation
Have you noticed that right after we dropped Adam Eaton we started winning.
Insert young talent = wins plus happy mood : )
Francy has no plate recognition and so pitchers have stopped throwing him strikes, therefore he doesn’t hit the ball anymore and if he does it is rarely hit square. The result is a few bloop hits and singles but really really bad OBP and SLG.
In my opinion one of our best trade chips is Kris Medlen. He was tearing apart AAA until being called and has made two starts. Both starts he has had alot of 0R inning but in each there was an inning when he gave up ~4R when his control dissapeared. All in all he projects as a #3 starter or a top setup man/closer.
Freeman and Hicks are your two trade chips
Scott matches up if the Braves are willing to give up at least one of the two of them and a minor league piece.
I would give up Hicks but not Freeman. I would do Hicks and a couple A-AA arms for Scott no problem. Freeman’s ceiling is Mark Grace with more power and those kind of guys don’t grow on trees. He has stumbled out of the gate a bit this year but he still has a decent chance to reach his potential.
I know this is a long shot...
but a trade for Rafeil Soriano? Or anybody else in your bullpen?
Big Numbers
In his first 800 at bats
Francoeur had I think 11 walks, 4 intentional, no plate discipline at all
Big Numbers
What we need is a quality 3B
I know Chippers getting up there in age, but as it is, by next year will will have 9+ potentially good starters.
Mora is going to retire soon, and we have no fit for 3B in our system.
I would expect a waiver claim from the Braves
or maybe Cards or any number of teams. We could get something for him, prob 1-2 prospects. There are some bad outfields out there, Braves probably being the worst.
Matt Wieters broke a bat last night. Nobody knows what happened to the ball.
How about Scott for Hanson and a couple other prospects?
or even better, just don’t even take one of our players, and give us Hanson :-)
I'm all for keeping Huff.
But man, Nick Johnson would look good wearing orange and black.
