Wieters isn't the answer

No one single player can turn the Orioles around at this point. It must be a team effort that includes management. After Tuesday's horrible attendance (10,130), will ownership realize it's to blame for the decay of one of the greatest baseball teams in history over the last 12 years? Hopefully Wieters will eventually be nearly as good as advertised. Hopefully other young hitters will continue to improve. Hopefully management will wake up and sign real pitchers. And hopefully ownership will either sell or start believing in baseball.

FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

That's why the Opening Day lineup has 6 players not on this team

Because it won’t take one player. We’ve replaced 5 of them and 1 is on th Dl (Koji) who will come back. But Freel, Moeller, Lou, Eaton, Ray – well, maybe not Ray – those guys won’t be missed.

Does this mean that

we can’t use all those young pitchers we have in the minors (and now on the roster)? Dang. Someone’s going to get some good young arms out of us so we can go “sign real pitchers.”

With growth comes pain

and while the partnership with Yahoo! and the placement on SI and CBS Sportsline help grow the site, yeah, it doesn’t always raise the level of the dialogue…

as a lurker pre-Yahoo

I have to say that it’s really not that bad. You can tell which threads to avoid, and you guys still put out great content.

The answer to the “problem” is for more people like me to comment more and maybe actually put up a few quality fanposts. And to not comment on stupid stuff.

Yeah

The truth is, there are a number of great posters who have come on board recently. I love that the site is getting more visitors. It’s good for all of us. It causes a few headaches, but it’s totally worth it.

These posts

remind me of all of the threads on Bleeding Green Nation like “McNabb is a horrible QB” and “Eagles ownership sucks for letting Dawkins go” — it’s posting with no depth

"In a couple of weeks or a month, I'll be excited about this team," Dawkins said. "I've got to get used to saying that -- I'm a Bronco." Then he paused. "I'll tell you one thing -- I'll always be an Eagle."

by exitfare on May 29, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

That’s one of the things I always loved about CC, almost always the posting had thought behind it and was full of content.

True

But I was referring to the fanposts usually having thought and content.

by Gorilla Bird on May 29, 2009 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Me too...

I’ve only begun to post recently, but have read this site for a couple years now – mainly because it was largely free of the B.S. of other such sites. I realize the purpose of fanposts, but felt that for the most part they were intelligent and/or funny and full of good content. Now, that seems to be the case less and less. I guess it happens though – things go in cycles. I just read with a bit more trepidation.

Stay with the Front Page stuff

We tend to promote the really, really good Fan Posts and Fan Shots anyway.

Actually...

Legend has it that one time Wieters played all 9 positions and batted all 9 times. The game ended infinity to nothing.

Wieters can do anything.

Also secretly the Owner, Manager, and GM of the Orioles*. Angelos, MacPhail, Trembley? Just puppets of the Wieters Empire.

*Also every other team.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Paradox

Can Matt Wieters run a baseball team so good it could beat Matt Wieters himself?

Really? You pick today for this post?

You picked the best day of the best week to be an Oriole fan in recent memory to be Debbie Downer and on top of it throw in the token Angelos bashing. That’s soooo last season.

You clearly know not of what you speak. The neglect the minors so we can “sign real pitchers” attitude is what got us 12 straight losing seasons. You are obviously not paying much attention to what is going on with the Orioles. No, Matt Wieters alone is not the answer, but when you combine him with Jones, Markakis, Huff, Scott, etc., it adds up to a pretty potent lineup. We have other players to complement him already.
