Quick note on O's youngsters and pitch counts...
fwiw, "the admiral" oliver drake went 7 innings at delmarva last night (i should mention that his full name is oliver gardner drake, which, to me, reaks of 4th generation annapolis, but i digress...), tim bascom went 6 at frederick, patton went 7 at bowie and...does anyone care what chris waters did (he apparently did well, though)?
while we're at it., wtf w/ bascom and beato? their k rates are freakishly low...and beato's, like, a monster. 6'6"? 230? yeesh.

whoops
i didn’t really say anything about pitch counts, but i guess people have been concerned about young pitchers not getting stretched out. i think given the organization’s concern about burning out arms in the past, they’re taking an incremental approach and when guys demonstrate they can work efficiently and effectively, they’ll get the innings.

Beato
You are correct when you say Beato is a monster. I saw him at Frederick standing next to Wieters Pedro was definitively the larger man. Coming out of NYC I was sure that Beato would fit in somewhere with us in the future…but now I don’t know.
He has for the most part struggled mightily during his extensive tenure with the Keys. His fastball used to be around 95-97 consistently, but now falls more often in the lower 90’s. Beato is pitching better this year, but still leaves much to be desired while STILL at Advanced A ball.
Bascom appears to be somewhat back on track…I hope. Patton should be promoted to Norfolk sooner than later.

my first kid will just be named Matt Wieters
I’m not even going to give it my last name. And I don’t care if it’s a girl.

Except
How could you be mad at your father for naming you after the greatest ballplayer of all time?
