The Future edges closer: Patton & Arrieta to Norfolk.
Roch: Norfolk's Rotation Just Became Sick
I'm told that pitchers Troy Patton and Jake Arrieta are, indeed, moving up to Triple-A Norfolk, where they'll join elite prospect Chris Tillman in a beefed-up rotation.
I guess there's still room for someone else once the Orioles activate Koji Uehara, but it just got a lot more crowded down there.
Time keeps on tickin', tickin', tickin'... into the future. And it seems to be happening a lot sooner than most people expected. Can't be long before Matusz is moved up to Bowie, he doesn't have anything left to prove at single-A. Then it's just a matter of - what, months? - before we're seeing these guys at Camden Yards.
To repeat: 2/3 of the Big Three are now at triple-A. If you want to start holding your breath, you might actually make it.

Oh, and also, this is totally random and off-topic of this post...
…but we drafted Joe Flacco’s brother Mike today. How cool would it be if he worked out, and we started winning, and we’d have Flacco’s playing right next door to each other? Pretty awesome in my opinion.
If Mike Flacco turns out good, fine
But not every Orioles fan is a Ravens fan, and I personally would get pretty sick of all the Flacco talk. There’s already enough Ravens nonsense going on with the O’s. I know it’s basically inevitable, and makes good business sense for the club, so I ignore it, but I don’t have to like it.
I'd be surprised
If either Flacco is playing professional sports in 5 years.
ummm
Joe is pretty darn good, Mike may not be anything special at baseball, but in a league where Kyle Boller has stuck around for 6 years then I am sure Joe will. Ok thats enough football.

Who has the better rotation
Norfolk or Baltimore?

Norfolk, by a mile
but it don’t mean shit unless the hitters learn how to hit again. This offense right is just offensive!
Hey Smails, you scratched my anchor!
Tillman, Arrieta, Hernandez, Patton, Warm Body
That has to be the best rotation in the minor leagues.
The 5th spot may even be Liz
Either that or Waters. A step up from a warm body, but probably not by too much.

Livingston, maybe?

We have
so many arms to sort through over the next two-plus years. Damn this is gonna be interesting. There are so many x-factors outside of the Big 3 that competition should be fierce for starting spots in Baltimore.
Koji and Dave Hernandez will likely end up in the pen, unless we just send Dave back down to Norfolk for awhile (making Norfolk’s starting five the best EVER).
Jeremy Guthrie be warned, your job is most certainly not guaranteed for much longer sir. Get your shit together, we would love to have you as our FIFTH starter next season!
Barring an absolute continually can't get out of the second inning meltdown
Guthrie’s job is guaranteed for the near future.
You don’t throw away a pitcher after just two months of suckdom.

Per Roch
David has been optioned to make room for Koji. I guess this means Norfolks rotation is even more so a beast now than before.
Ironman8 will be glad to have closure on that subject.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
We’ve had other pitchers who have done well in the minors. That doesn’t mean they will be aces in the big league.
hakkaa päälle !
not this well though

The O's are a pretty whitebread team
I think because they’re not very good at international scouting. So that means a lot of Americans. And American baseball players are usually white.
I am going to miss Jake and Troy in Bowie
Those guys were excellent with fans and we will miss them. With that said how about that rotation in Norfolk? I am sure the IL is on notice when the opponent is Norfolk.
Brandon Snyder, 1B. Remember that name.
Why not promote Matusz as well?
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Likely after the Carolina/California League All-Star Game.
So, in about two weeks, we’ll see Matusz at Bowie.

"Matt Wieters Adopted Mark Texiera's Parents Because He Felt They Needed A Son To Be Proud Of."
Matusz started last night in what would be his last start before the Minor league break.
So right after makes sense.
The game was actually cancelled
So the stats will never show up in his official record.
His unofficial numbers on the year are a 2.04 ERA with 58 hits allowed and a 82/23 K/BB in 70.2 innings.
That is almost Wieters-level dominance.

That's good news
I never made to to Bowie for Arrieta or Tillman, hopefully I’ll get myself down there to see Matusz before he moves up.
