I hate to be beating the drum on this again

and I’m not just trying to blatantly bash Trembley; but does Wieters really need 2 days off in 4 games? I know it is the day game after a night game, but he just sat down on Thursday.

I guess what bothers me is Trembley’s utter lack of flexibility, his refusal to respond and adjust. To wit; Wieters must have, according to Dave, a day off every 5 days. Fine. But then, according to Dave, a catcher must ALSO have a day off after a night game…and even if those two days come within 4 games of each other he must sit both games.

It’s like watching a bad sci-fi movie with a robot trying to reconcile its contradictory programming directives or something.

Add to that just how good Bergesen has been since he has been pitching to Wieters, and the fact that the Os have tomorrow off, and it seems like the only reason to sit Wieters and play Zaun is because today is a day game/after night game.

No flexibility allowed, apparently.

Well the thing is

I’m not just saying “oh Dave is a pile of crap!” There are things I like about Dave…but he continues to show a decided lack of flexibility in making lineups and decisions that I find really bothersome. I think it is a legitimate criticism of him, not just bashing. That’s the point I was trying to make, I guess.

Not that Trembley hasn't made head-stratching moves of his own volition

but I always wonder how much input Andy MacPhail and others have on the on-field decision-making. Yesterday when Rich Hill fell apart there was a big to-do about how Trembly handles his staff, but it seems unfair to judge him based on the way the team plays if MacPhail doesn’t think it’s so bad that he needs to make a move. We all knew the team would be bad this year.

The particular need....

…to have Wieters, Mora, and Jones out of the lineup on the same day is preposterous. As is the continual urge to sit players right after they have a multi-hit game when they have been in a slump.

Melvin only had a three hit day yesterday; why hope that he might be seeing the ball well finally? Jones you have to sit to rest his shin, I suppose, but tomorrow is an off-day on top of everything else. Do Matt and Melvin really need two days off at this point?

by James F on Jun 14, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

huh?

he can sit mora all he wants, i think there’s some concern about the doctor’s shins and a catcher just isn’t starting a day game after a night game, especially after striking out twice against a guy having a shit outing.

Finishing strong

Another good game from Brad.

His pitching takes the edge off Guthrie and Hill struggling.

Ahahahahahahaha! Thx, waywardO-- look what I found on the Brave's thread (by "Commander" somebody):

This thread is ridiculously depressing… I understand we’re losing and I understand we are not beating a team we should beat, but let’s get some perspective here.

Baseball games have nine innings [!!] We’re not a bad team and we have a lineup many teams would love to have. Give the lineup some time to gel… we’ll be ok!

Worst press conference question ever

“Was the steal of home a planned play”?

Yeah, Dave told Brian to get himself picked off in the hopes that they could steal home.

Further press conference.......

“Once the wheels start coming off he does not get stuck”-Dave Trembley refering to Brad Bergensen and taking a swipe at Guthrie and Hill

Brandon Snyder, 1B. Remember that name.
