Mets vs Orioles coverage

Mets vs Orioles preview

I wasn't around to get up a GameThread and nobody else was either, so let's all thank Steve. for getting something up last-minute for us, and now let's marvel at how long I have to make this sentence so that it reaches 75 words. Adam Jones Bobblehead! Adam Jones Bobblehead! Adam Jones Bobblehead! Adam Jones Bobblehead! Who wouldn't want a freaking Adam Jones Bobblehead?!

Can I add him to my keeper fantasy team

That already has Adam Jones? (And Josh Hamilton, Curtis Granderson, Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez in the OF). I really want to, but I cant find a way to justify it.

by MattR on Jun 17, 2009 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Over Jayson Werth

Reimold will have a better career and has more good-ro-great years ahead of him. I mean, Werth was a catcher for the Shorebirds back when Clinton was still in his first term. Dude ain’t no spring chicken and spent the first half of his pro career as a catcher.

by duck on Jun 17, 2009 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess

Werth is so good when he gets on a hot streak which makes my partner irrationally like him. And then I have to convince a Yankees fan that is OK for our fantasy team to have two Orioles in the OF, the Rays startng middle infield, two Red Sox SP and Papelbon.

by MattR on Jun 17, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Werth can be a good fantasy player

I had him the few weeks where he homered five times in ten games and stole four bases (including home)… probably easier just cheering for Reimold. Werth is always a good guy to have because of the explosiveness.

by whereswieters on Jun 17, 2009 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

My question is...

if it’s a keeper league, how many more years is Werth going to be productive vs catching the Reimold Revolution from the beginning….

"I don't have a hit-and-run sign, and I believe it's the worst play in baseball." - Earl Weaver

by duck on Jun 17, 2009 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

if it helps

it is a head to head league with two week games. We start 9 batters (a starting lineup and utility) plus 8 pitchers (5 SP and 3RP). Roster is 27 men and we keep 11 (plus a 12th “prospect” – still a rookie). Hard to justify protecting 3 or even 4 OF.

Guess I have to hope Reimold stays a FA in my league and then take another look closer to our transaction deadline and make a decision based on how my team is doing.

by MattR on Jun 17, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Never done a keeper league myself

They produce ALL games in HD. Time/Warner, DirecTv et.al. just won’t give them a second HD channel, just the HD and one SD.

OK, Hayden was like this cheezy gift bag kids get at birthday parties

that’s worth WAY less than the gifts the birthday kid actually got, but you feel like you got something, even though it’s usually about 50 cents worth of plastic crap and maybe a bottle of bubbles instead pf the $30 Toys R Us gift card you gave them.

That’s basically the Andino for Penn trade.

Jeez, Gary and Jim sure love "national league baseball"

which is to say they like inferior baseball with MORE bunting, incompetent hitters (pitchers) at the plate several times a game, managers trying to employ ‘strategy’ without usually understanding why…what is with the huge hard-on they have for “National League Baseball?”
