GameThread: O's (24-28) @ Mariners (24-28)

Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners, Jun 2, 2009 10:10 PM EDT

The Orioles face an old friend in Erik Bedard tonight. I think just for fun Adam Jones should hit a grand slam off of him.

Seriously though the O's need to get their offense in gear if they hope to keep up these recent winning ways. It could be tough to do as we're all familiar with just how nasty Erik's stuff can be. Hopefully tonight he will just be Erik, not EriKKKKKK. The only Orioles who have any real experience against him are Aubrey Huff (6-26, 4 BB, 4 K, 0 extra base hits) and Ty Wigginton (6-22, 1 BB, 8 K).

David Hernandez makes his second career start. He was decent his first time out against the Tigers, and faces a much less intimidating offense tonight.

Go O's!

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
David Hernandez 1-0 1.59 1.59 3 4

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
Erik Bedard

The Mariner offense could help Hernandez get his ERA below 1

if they play like they did last night.

Found a teacher of Tortured, Pretentious Metaphors 101

In her book “Hamlet on the Holodeck,” Georgia Tech professor Janet Murray called “Tetris” the “perfect enactment of the overtasked lives of Americans.” The game, she wrote, shows the “constant bombardment of tasks that demand our attention and that we must somehow fit into our overcrowded schedules and clear off our desks in order to make room for the next onslaught.”

That’s one of the more ridiculous things I’ve ever read. Tetris is an incredibly fun test of your reflexes and reaction time. Since the days where we’ve owned an NES it’s the only video game at which my mother has ever had any success. Trying to draw some crazy parallel meaning out of it is one of the silliest things I’ve ever read. I wish I could get paid to write something that is so disconnected from reality.

So the Cubs just coughed up a 5-0 lead

as the Braves tied it up with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the ninth after the Cubs let a man reach first on a passed ball strikeout and wasted a gem of a performance by Randy Wells.
I have a soft spot for the Braves, so I’m happy about these developments.
