You can bet Earl Weaver would have protested and looked for any angle to stick it to the other team and work it to his advantage. Odds may be slim, but why is it not worth a try?

When all else fails, blame Jeter
Keep in mind that there’s some bad blood between Girardi and the Marlins from when he (briefly) managed there. Girardi wouldn’t have had anything to protest if “Mr. Clutch,” Derek Jeter, actually came through in the clutch rather than grounding out.
