GameThread: Orioles (32-38) @ Marlins (36-36)
Baltimore Orioles at Miami Marlins, Jun 24, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Fans (?) in Miami will be treated to one hell of an excellent pitching matchup tonight at 7:10. I mean, just take a look at these stat lines and try to control yourself. You'll likely be overcome with the desire to start an online petition to make this the All-Star Game starting matchup, or even name them Cy Youngs for their leagues.
BUT SERIOUSLY, FOLKS! Nolasco is on the short list for Fantasy Baseball's Biggest Bust, 2009 (Starting Pitcher), up there with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Rich Harden, both of whom are on my fantasy team. I just put Daisuke on the FA market. I've seen enough!
Nolasco has also posted a 2.50 ERA in three starts since returning from a stint at AAA, so maybe I shouldn't bust on him so hard.

Shockingly awesome
Although I was rooting for Spain…I recognized more of their players than the ones from my own country
"Take on Me" - a-ha
hmm you should have invested in some quality fantasy pitching
like i did! Notables include John Maine, Joel Hanrahan, and Brad Lidge! total domination right there!
Stupid Nolasco
I drafted him in fantasy and dropped his ass when he went down to the minors.
I didn’t read last night’s game thread but I’m hoping one of you stepped up to identify the Golden Girls house.
I will lead these Peoples to the promised land, also known as "Slightly Ahead of the Blue Jays." ~WietersRunDry

Pretty boring lineup without Jones and Reimold
But then again, watching AJ is pretty painful.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
O's Starting Lineup
1. Brian Roberts – 2B
2. Felix Pie – CF
3. Nick Markakis – RF
4. Aubrey Huff – 1B
5. Melvin Mora – 3B
6. Luke Scott – LF
7. Matt Wieters – C
8. Robert Andino – SS
9. Jason Berken – RHP

Yeah, 'cause ONE at-bat is totally enough evidence to prove your point
If you want to argue you’d rather have Pie than Reimold in LF, you go right ahead and make that argument.
"We're not the other teams' farm system." - Andy MacPhail
Do you actually think I want that? We’ve had this conversation many, many times, and I just wanted Felix to get his shot.
Since being cut out of the lineup, though, Felix has continually shown up in limited playing time.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Which I would argue proves he's a great fit as a 4th OF
and nothing more. I love the fact we haven’t read one article with Felix bitching about playing time (I’m looking at YOU, Ryan Freel). Actually, I like our OF situation just the way it is.
"We're not the other teams' farm system." - Andy MacPhail
I can't disagree with Felix likely being a 4th outfielder anyway
It just still irks me that the FO/coaches jointly agreed to cut Pie out prematurely.

He might not hurt as a fill in in the short term, but I agree with you.
Wieters is HERE and The Phils are in First, doesn't get much better:)
Down 0 – 2 Wieters is batting .000/.000/.000
Down 1-2 Wieters is .071/.071/.071
Even 2-2 Wieters is .091/.091/.091
His numbers after going down 0-1/0-2/1-2 are just as bad while his stats when ahead are impressive.
I’m not sure what the league averages are, but I’ve just noticed that Wieters swings and misses quite often with two strikes on him. Matt seems to foul off numerous pitches to start each at bat, and then he ends up King on good pitches.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Nicde to know I could help prove your argument
You’re right, he’s horrible with two strikes.

Do you have stats on how often he gets ahead in the count?
At least for a while there it seemed like he was working the count nicely and always getting in 1-0, 2-0, and 2-1 counts.
Give me a minute, I have to do some of my own math

I created a long post
But then realized that I made a slight mistake and would have had to start over with a ton of math in order to truly relay his lines.
I will say that Wieters’ line is considerably better than when even or ahead. I’ve been noticing for weeks now that Wieters ends up screwing himself by going after pitches very early in the count, either whiffing or fouling off a few balls, and then badly protecting when down in the count.
A bit more patience early in his ABs would go a very long way as pitchers would be forced to pound the zone more often.
This link tells the entire story and is definitely worth a look.

The bottom line
Is that, cumulatively, Wieters is.152/.129/.281 with two strikes in 31 of his 65 total ABs.
