More Fun w/ Miguel Angel Sano...
so, first of all, i had no idea how big this kid is...6'3"? 190? and he's 16? huh. from steve melewski's blog it sounds like dave stockstill is pretty high on him and if his vitals check out (age, identity, etc), the o's should be in the thick of it to ink this kid. i mean, if you're inclined towards conspiracies about courting players just for PR, that's one thing, but i'd have to guess that for the bulk of o's fans and baseball fans, miguel angel sano is a fairly obscure story...i think the professed interest is legit and i have a good feeling about this, but who knows, really?

I'm hoping its ligit
From all the reports I’ve read Sano sounds like the shortstop version of Strasberg.
Signing him would be a huge step in the right direction internationally and for the club’s development.
I'd love to
be able to follow this kid’s development as an Oriole. It sounds like that development won’t take too long though. MAKE IT HAPPEN BOYYYYYSSSS!!!!

It would be nice
But I still think it’s a longshot.
I’d be happy if the O’s just signed a few of the middle-tier Dominican talents for once.
It would be MASSIVE for the organization
On so many levels. Acquiring a top talent from outside the US (gasp)….in a position we desperately need….sending a message to the rest of MLB, getting our name out there for a premier player…getting positive press from national outlets…etc
Of course, this is largely why I’m highly skeptical we pull it off. We’ll do the same free agent dance we do every year
although...
it’s crazy. the o’s are looking at so many dudes in the DR right now that they have their own DSL team and are ALSO splitting one w/ the brewers and yet, looking at the numbers of some of those guys, i hardly see anything to be optimistic about, but maybe there are other metrics they’re looking at than raw data. luis noel is looking good…it’d be sweet if he could get his visa issues ironed out.

A great new position for Melvin Mora?
