Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Suck, suck, suck, suck, suck, Brian Bass, Matt Albers, suck, suck, suck, suck.

To be fair, Adam Jones and Robert Andino did OK, and Nolan Reimold had one hit.  Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, too.

Apparently, Dave Trembley was freakin' Nostradmus (video in new window) before the game against the Oakland Athletics. From his interview with MASN after today's disaster:

We said before the game the key was for (Rich) Hill to get out of the first inning.

Gee, ya THINK, Dave?

On the bright side, there were no hit and run plays, no bad baserunning, and no caught stealings. Then again, having only 7 baserunners, with 2 at a time only once, will do that.

I won't detail the trials and travails of our lineup. They blow, I think they know it, and Adam Jones isn't going to win games by himself.

A game like this, where a team surrenders only TWO hits, and is down 3-0 before the beer vendors have gone through their first case, is almost a fitting way to end a road trip that has seen the Orioles score just 10 runs in 6 games (and 4 of those came in ONE game) .

The Orioles host the Mariners Tuesday at 7:05. May God have mercy on their souls.

EDIT: Thanks to fishoutawata for the inspiration for the headline.

somebody help me out here

was today the old ‘we suck on Sundays’ suck or the recently discovered ‘we suck so hard we’re worse than the Nationals’ suck? I couldn’t tell.

by Dingbat Charlie on Jun 7, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

I think it was a combo

I mean there’s the newly discovered suck and then today was Sunday, it was a day game, it was getaway day, and it was on the road. Could someone compile those numbers for me and tell me if we ever even stood a chance to begin with.

I'm sure FanGraphs

would say we had a 15% chance of victory before the first pitch was thrown.

I'm not saying long-term

I’m saying if the O’s played the Nats in a 3 game series on a neutral field, who would you put money on RIGHT NOW? It will hopefully change within a week. But right now?

I've watched the Nats a lot

They’ve got some offense, but the pitching is incredibly, unbelievably, almost surreal-ly bad. My money’s on the Orioles.

Except on Sunday or the last game of the series

The O’s are unable to play when their suitcases are packed and the aircraft is gassed and waiting for them on the tarmac. Statistics from the last two seasons back this up.

Even though our starters have been terrible...

The bullpen has pitched well this series. Other than Hendrickson allowing 3 runs in the first game, the bullpen didn’t allow a run against the A’s.

I’d rather have a W though

by cjatud2012 on Jun 7, 2009 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Oh, P.S.

The lineup was shaken up again, which is okay considering how cold this offense has been (although no better today). But why was Wigginton at 2B, and Salazar at 1B? I understand Roberts and Huff might need days off, but wouldn’t it make more sense to have Ty at first, then slide Salazar to second, or have him play short with Andino at second?

Roberts and Huff may need days off

but not the SAME day.

I am not a fan of the way Dave manages a game

He seems to be a good manager of younger players as a whole. But on game day he is not the guy I want pulling the strings in the dugout. This team is on the brink of something special on the mound. We may need to look around for a better game day manager to take us to the next level. I am open for comments.

I don't disagree with you.

I don’t see a managerial change getting made during the season, though, barring one of those patented Orioles August collapses, anyway. Frankly I think this team ought to be a hell of a lot better AFTER the All-Star Break this time.

Ken I just can't figure it out offensively

We are stacked offensively. With Andino and Izturis hitting better at this point than anyone imagined we should be destroying some pitching staffs. What I see is a lot of hitters swinging at stuff out of the strike zone. They also seem to have problems when runners are in scoring positions. There does not seem to be a plan of execution taking place at the dish. Anyway lets all hope for the best down the road.

Wiggs has played quite a bit of 2nd base

in fact I believe he’s only played more games at 3rd. he doesnt look like a 2nd baseman, but he at least has some knowledge of it.

Some teams just "own" other teams.

Oakland has always owned the Orioles for many years now. Something unexplainable.

Another bright decision from

Dave “Trembles” Trembley. Man what I wouldn’t give for a manager like “Hank Bauer,” now there was a manager. I was looking over the Orioles list of managers since 1966 and we have had some real stinkers, “Ray Miller” come on, “Phil Regan” come on, “Sam Perlozzo” now really come on….now we can add old “Trembles” to that list of men who don’t know how to manage an MLB club, lucky us hey….!! Hey Andy McFlop I have an idea for you, there is this guy I know that manages a Sunday softball league for the “International Brotherhood of Pooper Scoopers” and he isn’t bad, he has a winning record 2 and 1, so go get him for our O’s genius!

The O’s, the Natinals, and the Royals. IS THIS THE COMPANY WE WANT TO KEEP?

Seriously WTF Dave. I’ve been having your back and you know I’m not afraid to call you out on your managing style, so I’m telling you now, this ballclub has gotten right the hell away from you. You’ve done a lot with very little but y’all can do much better than this. Don’t go out like Willie Randolph.

And stop batting Mora higher than 6th FFS. He’s old and has a lot of kids which he can’t outrun anymore and you shouldn’t be taking any shit from him. I would put him 8th personally, but this 4th/5th business has got to fucking stop right now.

Dead elephant. No, worse. What’s worse? Throwing a 2-hitter and losing by three runs. That’s pretty worse.

I’ve been sick to my stomach for 72 hrs. The local GP did a full work-up and announced It’s the Orioles Sucking Worse Than Dead Elephant Flu.

Shoulda gotten that shot. No, shoulda shot that owner. When in doubt, always go back to Petey: one way or another, the dots connect. The Toad abides.

Go O’s! Like, Go take a nap, maybe. Then contemplate the Mariners. Oooooh, pretty scary, huh? OK, prepare to beat the crap out of them Tuesday.

Please.

One thing I've never understood.

As a pitcher, if you can’t find the plate, why not throw it down the middle? So what if they hit it. You have 7 guys behind you standing there with these little thingies called a glove on their hand, getting paid lots of money to, among other things, catch batted balls.

Oakland Games

I went to see the Friday and Sunday games at the Colluseum. I had great seats for both games since this wasn’t much of a matchup. Sunday was the stadium was full of Boy Scouts and parents, based on a promo. The Colluseum isn’t a great place to see games – the seats on the 1st and 3rd baselines are really far from the field.

The first innings of both games were brutally hard to watch. Guthrie looked absolutely furious when he was pulled on Friday night. Hill looked like a dope on Sunday – I think he thought the ump wasn’t being fair to him. Andino was a lot of fun to watch all the way around. The whole thug thing didn’t really come across – he looked like a kid during BP. A kid with amazing reflexes in the fieldduring both games.

The other guy who was everywhere during BP and during the games was Zaun. He fielded grounders at SS and picked up balls during BP between cuts, warmed up pitchers, signed everything that was waved at him. He looked like a guy doing lots of things to contribute and stay active.
