Seattle Mariners at Baltimore Orioles, Jun 9, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
Talk about going from hot to not in a jiffy. The O's look to stop a five-game losing streak tonight at 7:05 against the Mariners.
The good news? We're 16-13 at home as opposed to a dreadful 8-20 mark on the road, which is equal to the Twins (7-19) and just better than the hilariously bad Nationals (6-20) to put us among the worst road teams in baseball. The Padres are 8-19, too.
(The Phillies, at 21-8, are the best road team in baseball. They are 12-14 at home.)
Good lookin' numbers right now:
- Wieters is 4-for-28 overall and 2-for-20 since his second game up. He's hitting .143.
- Huff went 3-for-22 on the road trip and hasn't homered in 80 at-bats.
- Adam Jones is fine: He went 8-for-22 on the road trip (.364).

Hobgood looks a little big, who knows, once he gets on better training and diet, lose some weight, up his velocity, develop his changeup. I have never really paid attention to the MLB draft, so I can’t really talk much more than that ha.

Most mock drafts i saw had him as a top 15-ish pick, just not quite top 5
I take it, obviously without any real info, as the Orioles not really preferring any one high school pitcher in the draft so they took the cheapest all other things being equal. Frees up some cash to go for high upside players later in the draft that other teams may have passed on because of signability concerns.

This was not a money saver. I knew I would be asked that, because he wasn’t a name guy that people kept seeing in the paper. We scouted him all year long, I saw him the first time early in February and saw him two times after that. This had nothing to do with money. Look at what we’ve done lately. It’s who I want and who our staff wants.

I’m just saying look how we did against Oakland, which has a lower team AVG and SLG than Seattle — more runs scored but seems like fundamentally a worse offense. And we gave up like 20+ runs over three games.

I'd argue against "very well"
He gave up 52 hits in 45 IP, while walking 15 and only striking out 20. And those numbers are in line with his career numbers — he gives up too many hits and doesn’t strike out enough guys to realistically expect a significant major league future.

That is what I don't understand about our team.
On paper we should be rocking the East. But we beat outselves on the basepaths, don’t take walks, swing at stuff out of the strike zone. Also I love B-Rob but he does not do the things a leadoff guy should do (take pitches and work the count)
