Talk about going from hot to not in a jiffy. The O's look to stop a five-game losing streak tonight at 7:05 against the Mariners.
The good news? We're 16-13 at home as opposed to a dreadful 8-20 mark on the road, which is equal to the Twins (7-19) and just better than the hilariously bad Nationals (6-20) to put us among the worst road teams in baseball. The Padres are 8-19, too.
(The Phillies, at 21-8, are the best road team in baseball. They are 12-14 at home.)
Good lookin' numbers right now:
- Wieters is 4-for-28 overall and 2-for-20 since his second game up. He's hitting .143.
- Huff went 3-for-22 on the road trip and hasn't homered in 80 at-bats.
- Adam Jones is fine: He went 8-for-22 on the road trip (.364).

This is an odd one, as Baseball America had him ranked #40 on their draft prospect list just a couple weeks ago.

Most mock drafts i saw had him as a top 15-ish pick, just not quite top 5
I take it, obviously without any real info, as the Orioles not really preferring any one high school pitcher in the draft so they took the cheapest all other things being equal. Frees up some cash to go for high upside players later in the draft that other teams may have passed on because of signability concerns.
I'd prefer they took the best player available
But I guess I fine with this if they do actually spend that cash later in the draft or in the Dominican.

If you dont feel strongly about one player over another, why not take the cheaper one?

for me, the name vargas is entwined w/ the movie a touch of evil. at several points in the movie, the welles character is left muttering the name “vargas.” vargas, however, is a mexican attrney played by charlton heston.

I’m just saying look how we did against Oakland, which has a lower team AVG and SLG than Seattle — more runs scored but seems like fundamentally a worse offense. And we gave up like 20+ runs over three games.

I'd argue against "very well"
He gave up 52 hits in 45 IP, while walking 15 and only striking out 20. And those numbers are in line with his career numbers — he gives up too many hits and doesn’t strike out enough guys to realistically expect a significant major league future.
