Brad Bergesen = STUD
I was just scouring Brad Bergesen's stats and they are really impressive. I know there are plenty of naysayers who believe that towards the end of this year, or by next year, hitters will have figured him out and he'll become nothing better than a #4/5 in the rotation. However, if Bergy continues his recent trend, we could be looking at a fantastic, young pitching staff next year (if the 3 headed monster is promoted). Here's Bergy's stats so far this year:
APRIL: 2 Games, 5.59 ERA, 9.2 IP, 7K, 3BB, 1-0 Record
MAY: 6 Games, 4.78 ERA, 37.2 IP, 14K, 9BB, 1-2 Record
JUNE: 5 Games, 2.23 ERA, 36.1 IP, 19K, 7BB, 3-0 Record
Obviously, Bergy's June numbers are unreal, ranking up there as one of the top SP's in the league during that span. He pitched one less game in June then in May, yet had nearly as many IP, more K's and less walks, all while dropping his ERA down nearly 2.50 vs his May stats. Overall, Bergy's ERA is a very respectable 3.76 and he's looking very poised on the rubber. So here it is...I'll pose my question: Will Bergy be our opening day starter next year?
Here's to hoping that Bergy pitches very well tonight vs Mr. Beckett & The Sawx

hmmm
not completely sold on him just yet. Most of his stats during the dominant post-Wieters era were against bad offenses. I would like to see him do a full tour or two of the AL East.
BUT hes proven he belongs in the majors. I still don’t see him as being more than a back end of the rotation starter for a good club though (thats a good thing btw).

I'm with terp
but I do think he will be our number two starter next year, and might tail off a little bit with that sophomore slump that hits every pitcher not named Tim Lincecum. They will probably keep Guth as the opening day starter because of his veteran presence.

If only Tim Lincecum was still on the board when we took Bill Rowell...

I'm still crying
over that one. My sister lives in San Francisco, and I’ve been trying to get her to stalk Lincecum for a while, but she’s not taking it.

Bergresen is a STUD
I like to believe he’s a stud as well. I mean, he’s got a long way to go yet before he’s established as a legitimate starter in the bigs, but in the meantime I am absolutely thrilled with his performance for the O’s.
I really hope he can remain a middle-to-back end starter in the rotation for years and years to come. Not only would have indicate that he’s got something worth hanging on to, but as a back end starter it would signify that the O’s would have developed at least three superior arms for the big club, and what a great situation that would be!

Wow…Bergy pitches another gem today.
8IP, 4H, 1ER, 6K’s, 0BB, 3.53 ERA
Also, in Bergy’s last 7 starts, he has lasted at least 7 innings – unreal
The O's will contend in 2010

Against the Sox no less
I can’t imagine the Sox go 8 innings without walking too often. While he doesn’t blow you away with his FB, you have to like his ability to pitch. He’s the anti-DCab.

Hate to burst the bubble partially
But he only went 6 against the Natinals and 6 and a third against the Filthies
