Orioles abcent in the community again!!!!

I wanted to re post this because from the responses i got it doesn't seem like most people know that this accourance is going on!!! Let me hear more of your thougts and i just want to get this issue out there again!

This really isn't much of a post but it is something that has been getting to me lately. I am starting to get tired of only hearing what oriole players have to say only through masn and the newspapers like the baltimore sun. The orioles really need to fix this problem. I think the orioles are really hurting them selves. One of the reasons we love the ravens so much is because we kind of feel a connection with the players and i just don't feel that with the orioles. I think it is total crap the the Orioles don't allow there players and coaches to speak anywhere else except for oriole owned networks. Like Nick Markakis he has this great new charity foundation and he is not allowed to advertise it anywhere else except through the orioles. It is just frustrating and if anyone from the orioles reads this you really need to get this changed BIG TIME!!!!!!!. Let me know what you think as a fan!

MLB vs. NFL

I really can understand your frustration but isn’t this how most major league teams operate? Your comparing the NFL to the MLB, two totally different organizations. I live in york, pa and get the O’s, philles and pirates coverage and they all seem to have one affiiliate they work through. Now the NFL is usually covered by one major network, this is just what I have noticed.

Don't even get me started...

If you’re going to rant, at least rant intelligibly. As far as the connection thing, that sounds like a personal problem. I really enjoy watching this team play, they seem to be having alot of fun, and they’ve won some great comeback games. Sure, there has also been some real downer losses, but the point is that things seem to be getting better. I’m really liking the rookies (Bergesen, Reimold, Weiters), as well as the ‘veterans’ (Jones, even though he’s young , Markakis, and Roberts). I’ve even enjoyed watching Wigginton this year. Being born in Baltimore, and growing up rooting for the Orioles, is enough of a connection to every Orioles team for me. It’s just getting better and better now.

There’s a quote I wanted to post on here from the Orioles Encyclopedia about the difference between watching a young, promising team lose ballgames, and a tired, old one, but I’m at work now, so I don’t have it in front of me. Oh well….another time, perhaps.

I love it and honestly I have no desire to see Fenway. Bill Simmons told me enough about that park, and he is a die hard Sox fan but says what a dump that place is.

I don't really feel a connection with the Ravens players

The players don’t know me, nor do I really know them. No connection there.

I just like the Ravens because they are a Baltimore organization that is generally competent and they tend to win.

If the O’s get to that point, I bet you’ll discover that missing connection.

I worry a lot more about this team WINNING GAMES

that what charity is the recipient of Nick Markakis’ money. That may sound callous, but it isn’t. I think Nick Markakis is going to help people with his new found riches whether we know about it or not.

Non-issue to me. I still wish we could resign Erik Bedard and his lack of PR skills than have another year of the wonderful father, Melvin Mora. Production beats all, unless we’re talking about hurting kids or women. That’s where I draw the line.

again, repeating myself today, but steroids are mickey mouse shit for the league. let’s see mlb do something about domestic violence.

but do steroids contribute to domestic violence?

I agree with you, but I wonder if some of the domestic violence we hear about and see is due to “roid rage.”

by Gorilla Bird on Jul 11, 2009 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed.

I feel a connection to this team whether or not I see them anywhere but at the Yard or on MASN. I don’t really care if I hear “Hey this Adam Jones and your listening to so and so radio station” As for our coverage on ESPN, well thats not going to be big until we start to contend.

Why am I going to even bother answering this?

Maybe to keep you from posting a third time.

I think it is total crap the the Orioles don’t allow there players and coaches to speak anywhere else except for oriole owned networks.

The Baltimore Sun is not at Oriole-owned media source.

And I don’t believe for a second that “the Orioles ’don’t allow’ players and coaches to speak anywhere else”. What evidence do you have that suggests this? If you Google “nick markakis foundation”, you find references to Nick starting The Right Side in the Baltimore Business Journal, WNST, and a host of other places. Presumably he got that coverage by talking to those folks.

The Ravens have a week off between games to talk to reporters; even if their next game is on the road, they have at least 3-4 days at home. Those days are spent at a practice facility, an easy place for reporters to hang around to intercept them.

Baseball players, by contrasts, do not “practice” much during the season, because they play almost every night. They take some BP before the game and maybe watch some video or hit the cages and that’s it. They get to have a life during the day, and when they come to the ballpark, they’re ready to work, not to jaw with someone.

So most quotes of baseball players on any team that you see come from post-game pressers and clubhouse interviews. And in a large market like NY, you would have 6 or 7 reporters in there from papers, radio and TV all trying to get a story. But in Baltimore there are not enough media outlets for that to happen. The problem is not with the Orioles censoring their players; the problem is that Baltimore’s dwindling media market means there are no longer any beat reporters covering the team. Roch and Schmuck are pretty much it, so that’s why that’s all you get. Plus whomever is assigned by AP, which, but the way, regularly gets player quotes. I assure you that a year ago, before the Washington Post canceled their Orioles coverage, they also regularly interviewed players. So did Baltimore’s last other daily paper, the News-American, which probably folded before you were born. If some REALLY dedicated blogger was independently wealthy and pushed the FO to get press credentials, stating they’d be there EVERY DAY, they’d probably get them. But that person does not exist, because most bloggers make virtually no money and so they have day jobs.

I live 3,000 miles away from Baltimore and I feel a tremendous connection to the team. If you don’t I think that says more about you then about them.

Also:
Spell check? Your friend.
And seven exclamation points? Unnecessary.

Alright

Yea the NFL has a week in between games to do things but also there is something called an off season. Also there is something called the all star break. Also is it is the honest to god truth other than MASN and the Sun the orioles arn’t able to be interviewed by other sources. It would be nice for someone who is not going to suger cought there interview questions to interview the players. Why do you think Jon Miller was fired? Because he started talking about how the orioles were making mistakes and playing bad. They don’t allow there players to talk to anybody that could hurt there reputation or appearance. I posted this again because if you can’t read re read the first line again!! don’t think alot of people recognize what is going on!
